Thinking about SMT and Steemarket.com: could I try to crowdfund it?

in #smt7 years ago

@ned posted recently about SMT and Oracles SMT. I have to say that I can't fully understand how that is going to work, but I think that a token dedicated to artworks and art services could be useful for the Art community on Steem. And probably Oracles could be used to certify authenticity of artworks and artists' identity - if I understand well what Oracles tokens are going to be, when released.

Anyway, what I'm trying to create in the last months is an interface for artists based on the Steem blockchain. A showcase and a database for selling/buying artworks, offering services, help the artists to share their art. Steemarket.com is still very far from that (at the moment it is just a a showcase build on Wordpress), and I have not the technical skills to develope it. I'm going to add soon pages and services to the website anyway, but I will not be able to connect it to the blockchain (or just using an account and a dedicated tag).

Is it also possible that the subcommunity feature (coming on Steemit in 2018, I guess) will make an interface for Art useless. I don't know.

The project itself is still not so complete: I want to have it open to contributions and suggestions.

In any case, I will surely need a developer. And I'm going to open a crowdfund to pay the developing of the project. Of course, the project has to be fully designed and introduced before asking money to fund it.

I asked Ned, on steemit.chat, about the benefit of using SMT for the Art Community. I hope he will answer, but the field of Art is a particular market, and I probably need to talk with a tech to put together my knowledge of the Art Market and his tech know-how.

I also wonder if @sndbox team and the utopian.io (@elear?) project can help me for my project.

Interesting idea @paolobeneforti. As we (sndboxers and others) fly by the seats of our pants just trying to keep up with these big ideas and innovations, it's important to be stating our cases for how we would like to see our fields transformed. Otherwise, who would have a clue? Keep working on this!

thx @kefinkel. I just asked about it in the slack :)

Sure we will help!

Good work using wordpress so far @paolobeneforti I think its a good system that can be used for what your trying to do, well done for going at this even if you dont understand it fully.

@paolobeneforti you have a good idea here and judging from the comments, some great support! I'm going to look at the site and think about it. I will of course speak up with any ideas.

thx @natureofbeing, I hope we can do it, all together :)

Yes most definitely!

I think it's an excellent idea. Perhaps focusing on art that Steemians can use in their articles would reach a wider audience?

Great idea by author and commenter :) Art for articles or logos and graphics for our own blogs! I’d pay!

Keep with it. It could provide a valuable service to the community. My partner is an artist so I will watch the development of this idea. SMT will definitely be an option to explore and the Oracles and Oracles QA you build into your token would do exactly what you said. Don't worry about the blockchain side of it. Once you set up a token (SMT) to your satisfaction, it is launched on the Steem blockchain automatically. Good post!

thx Brian. I'm going to develope it for sure, with some tech help from this amazing community :)

Good. I couldn't encourage you enough!

I want to do the same, but with academic writing. I’ve been thinking peer-to-peer > peer review. I’m hoping the @sndbox folks will offer the synergy, and it looks like you’re thinking my way :) I just posted about oracles and what I think it means.

Hey there, I'm an academic lecturer and I specialize in writing mostly academic papers and all. I do write about hacks on writing, if you are keen, would love to hear your idea? Although I think @bluepencil is already doing it

Wonderful! I’ve been enjoying your articles on pedagogy btw. And that broad idea regarding peer-instilled value is as far a I’ve gotten on a Steemit-specific leve of implementation (still very new), but in that post I linked to I describe a lot of the abstract concerns, mostly from meme theory. What’s @bluepencil doing? I’d be relieved if somebody is already on this.

They are more on proof-reading and so if that's what you are going for, you may have competition. However if you are focusing mainly on helping others write academically, I think that would be very interesting.

You mentioned meme theory and abstract concerns, hope you don't mind elaborating?

Ah, I see. That’s complementary, their project, not antagonistic! Proofing would be part of the hub/cluster of curation I’m imagining. Think peer review atop a blockchain. And on the abstract front, though I hate to be that person on Steemit, may I direct you to my post? It covers those exact bases, focusing on oracles; if I tried to explain in this comment I’d be really reductive and probably unclear!

I really enjoyed this @paolobeneforti. Artwork and services as direct use for Steem dollars would help us a lot. When I need logos or graphic fiverr is too anonymous and my designer is always rogue. May I ask, what’s the Wordpress showcase site? I develop there and though new to Steem I can imagine the GitHub code and php Wordpress sits on wouldn’t be hard to merge? Thanxs for a great read!

the website is www.steemarket.com, very basic at the moment. :)

This is a similar thought to what we have been having for the science community. In the end the decision to implement a SMT makes sense, as it allows for the implementation of an expert based economy. For art it will allow for the best artistic contributors to reward other artists, and those with talent are also those with an eye for other talent. I say you should go for it.

thank you. I have still doubts about the benefits of it, but it depends on my limitated understanding of how actually SMT will be accepted (the recent investment of 20 millions on it is a good push tho)

I thought the same thing until I read the white paper a few times and tried to envision how we could implement SMTs in a beneficial way. In the end the distinguishing factor of whether you will create value or make something hokey, will fall on the shoulders of your implementation.

The funding won't create real value, YOU will. Through the community you establish with the aide of the SMT. Make an art marketplace where SMT has worth, make value specifically for art through your token. Make the token MEAN something, not just be a coin, but rather be a true badge of quality. There are a lot of ways to draw out the value from the proposed system. The paradigm of money and value is changing. And we are those are the forefront of this new revolution.

What I think is exactly something like that, expecially considering the community and its token not just for buying/selling artworks but for rewarding real good contents - like Steem does (or should do). I think this could even change the whole Art Market (in time) and the way we consider an artwork and its value.
But it also depends on acceptation of this new paradigm, which isn't going to happen without reactions and fight, in my opinion

You and I are 100% on the same page. And it is up to people like us to fight these battles. The rewards for the world in general could be quite huge if we are successful.

I wanna know more about SMT and thank you for sharing this @paolobeneforti , I will join you for understanding how it work.
