RE: SML Feedback Contest Round Two Starts Now.

Here's my entry for this week. I'd also like to say thanks so much to everyone for their feedback in last weeks contest. It means a lot that people took the time to check out my track and give such detailed feedback. I know I have a long way to go yet but I'm constantly working on it. Anyways, Here's my track:

Sort:

Here is my thoughts, notes, etc.

  • I like the melody, the bass line is kind. The energy is there in this track. It has a commercial edge to it. I feel like it has all of the elements for this to be super powerful. it could feel like an idea, a 2nd draft maybe? What I am thinking is I think you might be able to go a bit further with it. maybe record some of your parts out and process them a bit or a bunch, until they start sounding like great sounds you maybe never heard before.

  • ofcourse what i am saying is coming from the idea, that you wanna make this the track of the night! The closer even. it has that feel and energy to be the last track the dj plays in his set, and he is the last dj of the show, the sun is coming up, and this is the track! but if that was the case, i feel you would for surely wanna extend it to be much longer, have it keep growing, bring in some swelling washes, rises, and make the kids on drugs loose their minfs and never wanna go home!

  • (Ah the good old days!
And when I talk about the good old days, I made a living as a techno dj from 2001 - 2009, and I was playing 1 - 4 nights a week them years.)

  • okay so back to your tune. if your not looking to be the track of the night, which is always a rad approach casue not ever track can be the last track. some have to be strong supporters that build. and your tune could be that too!

  • it could go smaller! minimal as fuck if you wanted! the grooves are there, again process some of them sounds to make them all your own, and this could be a mini tech bumper!

  • i truly see too paths here. and where you are at is fine too. but for my liking, I always want original sounds I don't know iin my tunes.

I hope this helps, and pops your brain to move it the way you want it!

Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated. I do agree that I could've taken it further for sure, the main reason I didn't is because this is a track for vocals to go over and I didn't want too many melodies clashing with the vocals, although I see your point that I could've went harder with the sounds. I've actually just released a version or a track my group fresh eire did on this track on my channel tonight. I'll follow you back now. Thanks again

i will check out this tune and yeah, i diidn't realize you had vocals coming for the tune! I am sure once you get them in, you will know what you need to do, as i would think the goal would to be to make it all work to support the vocal. that being said, i think you are sitting pretty! for sure ready for vocals! I am looking forward to hearing it with the vocal!! great job my pal! gonna check your groups tune now!

Awesome. I probably should have mentioned in the post that vocals were coming for it. Sorry about that, I clean forgot. Thanks again for taking the time to write such detailed feedback. I've tried my best to give feedback on yours also, but like I said in the feedback, I'm far from an expert producer so I could be wrong in my critique about the sub bass. It's just something I would have done with the track personally but everyone has their own sound

thanks for the feedback! i agree perhaps so more low end needs to be! thanks man!!! and no sorrys about the non mention of the vocal. was fun to discover and find it the way i did!

that's cool. I hope I didn't cause any offence by suggesting it needed a little more low end. I always feel really bad critiquing other peoples tracks when my own tracks are filled with mixing issues, but I always look for the positives much more than the negatives. Your track has basically no negatives in my mind other than a little low end needed. It is an awesome track.

heck no! i wanna hear what you hear. i agree with it! thank you my friend

This is a very catchy track! I like the melodies...for my personal taste they might be a bit 'simple'; I prefer my melodies often a little more complicated / varying. But I think the relatively simple melodies is what makes this track so catchy so actually that probably ends up being a good thing and a compliment :) I like the bass as well. The kick and the bass work well together, but somehow I feel like the kick doesn't sound quite as good on it's own. Might need a bit more depth, but that's personal taste. It could use some vocals for sure, and I just read in the comments that it's meant to have vocals eventually...I'd be very interested in how it turns out then!

Thanks :) The bassline is a lot different to what I'm used to so I had to put a lot of time into getting it right, I normally stick to more simple basslines but tried to switch it up for a change. I agree for sure the kick doesn't work quite as well by itself, I was just trying to add some variety to it so you notice the bassline more when it comes back in.

I don't know if I should be posting a track that's not related to the challenge in the comments but if you'd like to hear the version with vocals on it here's a soundcloud link: https://soundcloud.com/fresheiremusic/feel-alive-fresh-eire

Thanks again for taking the time to listen.

Thanks for sharing the vocal track! For some reason I was expecting female vocals, not sure why...but this works well too. It definitely does add more to the track. Good stuff!

Thanks for listening :)

Always a pleasure to listen...

I don't know if it's only me, but somehow the Hi-Hat beat between 00:37 and 00:54 sounds a bit dry combined with the rest of the tracks. Same for 1:31-1:48 and the next batch. I get used to it quickly.

Nice beat overall! Possible collaborations might further develop it to something exceptional.
There's a good potential for modifying it for a Sonic The Hedgehog remix.

Thanks for your feedback. I'll try make some edits to it next time I open the file and keep it in mind for future tracks. A sonic remix would be cool :)

I will not say much about technicals about this track but I will say what I feel.

So when I listen to this I imagine myself riding Cadillac in 1980 Miami and sunset is beautiful.

Something like this:

Great track, great feeling. Peacee

Awesome. Thanks so much! I'm glad you like it :)

Keep up bro :)

im following you as well!

i really like this melody, it expresses summer and happyness, good times indeed. the bassline fits really well. What I would have done is the use of the fx high whhoosh sound, the reversed crash. those can be really powerfull on giving more accent when used before a change. so i would have only used them there. but this track is really nice it gave me a good mood :)

Awesome. Glad you like it. Yea I do agree on the reverse cymbals now that I listen again. It works better on the song we did with lyrics to it but the instrumental by itself maybe could have done with less of them. Thanks for the feedback. Much respect to you!
