The Mysterious Inca Ruins Of Moray In Peru

Here's my submission to the daily photo contest run by World Of Photography @photocontests in the #smartphonephotography category.

It's a photo I took at the Inca ruins of Moray near Maras, Peru at 3500 metres (11500 ft) above sea level.

The most interesting thing about these ruins, is that nobody knows for certain what they were actually for. One theory is that the Inca's built this place as a giant laboratory for running agricultural experiments. The bowl-like shape of the structure creates micro climates at different levels and the temperature can vary hugely from top to bottom. This would mean they could grow different crops at varying altitudes to find the most hardy and high yielding varieties of plants.

But as I said, no one knows for sure. It's a very interesting place.

Ancient civilisations have always intrigued me. It is amazing how they worked with what natured provided and worked with nature to better their lives. As for today as advanced, we may be, I feel we have gone completely away from being one with nature.

It is intriguing. What I find interesting about this site, if it was an agricultural laboratory, is that this was the beginnings of a civilisation trying to master nature, rather than being at its mercy.
