Australian Wildflowers #2: Slender Devil's Twine (Cassytha glabella)
Slender Devil's Twine (Cassytha glabella) is a vigorous climber, often strangling the host that it climbs on. The flowers are in little clusters, the whole thing being 5mm or smaller.
It is one of the genus of plants that includes one I've already covered in our Australian Bushfoods series - 'Snottygobble (Cassytha pubescens)', the difference being that Snottygobble has fine hair.
That leads us to a quick lesson in botanical taxonomic Latin...'pubescens' means 'hairy' while 'glabella' comes from 'glabrous' which means 'free from hair'.
There you go, youre a step further into learning those weird names that botanists give plants!
This is #originalwork. The pics was taken by me only Huawei smartphone.
I have an Australian Wildflowers Index that is updated every month. Please take a look to see other beautiful wildflowers unique to Australia.
