Stravinksy pinched all these great Baroque pieces and reset them to a neo-classical harmonies and treatment. I love Pulcinella and the Suite Italienne, but my true love belongs to the Baroque originals!

Rebecca Clarke (1886−1979) is counted as an English composer and indeed she was born, brought up and died there, although her mother was German, her father American, and she spent at least part of her adult life in the US. She’s best known for chamber music using her own instrument, the viola, and my selection - written in 1940 or 41, so a wartime piece - is a particularly beautiful example. As with the much more famous Fantasia by Vaughan Williams, the “old tune” of the title is attributed to Thomas Tallis. Exploiting the viola’s rich, veiled timbre to the full, the piece begins in sombre, restrained style but becomes more impassioned as it unfolds. It deserves to be better known, in my opinion.

A young girl played in the music band, and I, from that one flirted with the Zeppelin and the Floyd and things like that, I asked her to recommend me a classic piece to start learning something.
She suggested me "A consagración da Primavera", de Stravinsky.

The truth that I need some time to understand the work: I did not find the rhythm, the thread, it seems to me to change all the time of rhythms ... I do not know ... something impossible the beginning ... so hard...
Today I have it as one of my favorite works.
Ps: this video has a broken in the initial minutes ...
