Blue Sun Rises -- A Steem-themed Cryptocollectible on SuperRare

in #slothicorn6 years ago

My latest Crypto-collectible artwork has been released !

I call it the Blue Sun rises because I believe that, even with ONO incoming (especially since ONO isn't aiming for the exact same use-case as Steemit), the Steemit platform will rise in popularity as a platform for crypto-blogging.

I know there's difficulties, and that some of the much-touted features seem to be taking longer to implement than we thought (Communities, SMTs), but the numerous communities already implemented on the platform, like @curie, @steemmakers, @slothicorn, @creativecrypto and @utopian-io are already showing just how we are when working together, and creating some very interesting content along the way !

I mean... we've got our own freaking limited edition yearly Silver rounds for collectors, and talks of creating generic unnumbered Silver rounds everyone can afford, or even more exclusive and limited Gold coins (though I don't know how exactly the #steemsilvergold community feels about that idea yet. I think it's still up for much discussion, given how high the price would be XD) !!
Do you know another website that has actual Silver Rounds dedicated to its community ?

In any case, here's my latest creation to honor Steemit !

Inspiration

The inspiration for this artwork is pretty convoluted.

In one of my previous artworks created using Weavesilk and Deep Style, I created the following artwork:

it's still available for sale on SuperRare, though after some time of reflection I believe I could have done better.

Even if I was a bit too enthusiastic in publishing it on SuperRare (I think with some more time I could have created a better version), the overall visual of a single entity or object "shining" out like this kept pulling at me.

Design Process :

1. Weavesilk Background generation

I then went on a bit of a creative experimentation trip using Weavesilk, trying to see if I could create interesting patterns where a central entity could be placed to make a "sun-like" pattern.

I made several attempts, some of them really weak, like this one:

and others, more interesting:

Till I found one I thought the old Steem logo from Juniker Studios (They're all released under CC-BY, so use them in your own projects !) would look amazing in !

And here it is, Steem logo included :

2. Deep Style experiments.

I made quite a few experiments using the above image, but here's my two favorites from the first pass:

Experiment 1:

Experiment 2 - That I choose to keep for the "second pass":

I then decided to do a second pass through Style transfer with my preferred result, using one of the more popular Style images on Deep Dream Generator:

Combined with this Guide image, I obtained the artwork itself:

, which I proceeded to upload onto SuperRare

I've set an instant-buy price of 0.1 Eth, but you are of course free to bid whatever you believe it is worth.

wink wink bid higher wink wink

Deep Dream Generator is into Blockchains !

In other news, I've discovered that DeepDreamGenerator has something called Droins (Dream Coins), that you can earn by dedicating your processing power to their website.

They specifically mention that the CPU time you are donating will be used to gather funds to pay for the hosting, so I'm quite sure that they're doing some kind of cryptocurrency mining using it.

They list no use cases for Droins yet, but I imagine they may be used to get Full HD pictures (which are exclusive to Deep Dreamers, users of the platform with more than 50 Public "Dreams" and more than 400 Likes on said dreams, and then only 2 per hour, given the sheer mass of calculations necessary)

I'm about half-way to becoming one such Deep Dreamer, so soon I'll be able to generate Full HD quality Dreams, yay !

I'll probably do most of my experiments using normal quality Dreams, then using Full HD once I've chosen an image I believe is satisfactory, and see if the Full HD improves the details well.

Hope you enjoyed my little explanatory post for my newest creation !

Between SuperRare (Ethereum-based) and my Patchwork card in the Crystals Craft collection of Book of Orbs (Counterparty / Bitcoin-based), I've been playing with the idea of creating my own collection of Cryptocurrency-focused Artwork.

They'd have the overall general style of the Blue Sun Rises, but with varying effects and visuals to try and represent the different cryptocurrencies evolved.

From the top of my mind, IOTA could have the logo repeated in the same pattern as the dots in the logo itself, potentially with each logo Styled differently first and on a completely differently Styled background, then the end result Styled yet again with a separate Guide image to "fuse" the different styles together.

There's still some work to do first, and I've got to catch up on my ConsenSys coursework first, so it'll be a while before I start making much headway in that direction I believe.

Thanks for your attention, I hope you enjoyed the post !

Don't hesitate to ask questions about the procedure I used, SuperRare, or Book of Orbs / Spells of Genesis.

Go ahead, the extra visibility is always nice !
Hope I survive the steem-infused snake bite ;)

IF possible, a link directly to the collectible on superrare would be nice.

Hell, if someone has lots of spare SBD/STEEM we can negotiate a sale using our native currency, as Superrare gives the ability for the owner to transfer the artwork to anyone he wants before it's sold ;)

Thanks for Snekking me XP

I love these collectibles you're making :D I'm confused by what a Style Image for Deep Dream images. Is that a picture that the AI made?

The algorithm I used is Deep Style, it has the same general principles as deep dream, but instead of using a library of all the patterns Deep Dream has seen, it uses a Guide Image, a sort of template, to take the image you give it with the same visuals as the Guide Image.

AKA., it tries to identify and amplify patterns from the Guide Image in whatever input image you give it.

So it effectively copines the Guide Images style and remakes the given input ysing that style.

Awesome. Thanks for the explanation!

My turn to say "MAN, that looks awesome!" ... ;)

It is great to know how much you appreciate community - to me, that is what Steemit is all about.

And I love all the things you show in this process - Gotta experiment a bit myself!

hehe, thanks !

Later on, when I've finished my internship (I'm at the report writing stage... sadness and despair) and have found a place to live in Bordeaux (I've got a job there as a Bioinformatician lined up to start the day after I finish the Internship presentation for my Masters degree !) I plan to experiment with creating my own generative painting/design algorithms.

But by then I'll have finally received my 3D printer too, and I'll have to juggle it all with a new job, so it's gonna be a hectic time in terms of how many different things I'm doing hehe XD

Oooh man, I'm really envious of of all your upcoming endeavours. To be so busy with what you really love is great. I spend more than half my waking hours teaching English to pay the bills... Something that, while I don't hate it, is not what I would choose to do if I could ever start making real money with my art ;P

Like right now, for example, I have to get going to class, so no time to look up what a bioinformatician is! ;P Please do tell. 3D printing is going to be fantastic with the fractals! Though with anything a bit more detailed, you should look into using Shapeways.

Wonderful artwork! I have included your post in my weekly curation Ocean of Art!

Thanks :)

I'm always a bit surprised that people like my little pieces of art, honestly.
My Sister is supposed to be the artist in the family, while I'm the Scientist XD

It's only recently I realized that it's more about just experimenting with stuff you find interesting than it is about fitting into a box.

So now I'm the crazy 3D printing artistic bioinformatician XD

post a beautiful buddy make me your partner. by. @adit123

I have no idea what you're trying to say, but I think you were complimenting the post, so thanks !

@pbock you were flagged by a worthless gang of trolls, so, I gave you an upvote to counteract it! Enjoy!!
