Shorebreak Sessions #4: Redgate Beach, Margaret River, WA

in #shorebreaksessions7 years ago (edited)

After the success and pure enjoyment from the last shorebreak session at Conto's beach, it wasn't long before the next swell arrived with good winds and i had another great opportunity to take some more pictures.

Unlike the last shoot, this one took place in the morning. Id got up at dawn for a surf and driven down to redgate to have a look. The tide was a bit low, but so were the crowds, so i chucked on the slightly stinky wetsuit id left in the car and spent a few hours getting waves. Then the wind got a bit gusty and the tide got lower, so i legged it back up the beach and subbed out the board for the camera!

Session details:

Location: Redgate Beach, Margaret River, Western Australia
Time: 8am
Camera: GoPro Hero 3+ Black
Mode: Burst 30/2secs

A behind the scenes look at the energy of the Indian Ocean unleashed. Cobalt blue.

I took 2 attempts at taking this kind of shot underwater with no idea how they would turn out. The RAW image was just that and lacked colour and density. After a bit of time in photoshop and a touch of motion blur im stoked with the final result.

You can sit there thinking "the grass is greener on the other side", but stick around and you might just find yourself in the perfect spot anyway!

Old mate on the inside got a sick one moments before. In this game you sometimes have to pay to play, and the price for his gold was a set on the head in waist high water

Slotted! Over time im hoping my photography positioning will improve. Unfortunately i was a little to far away from the action on this so the resolution is lower after editing. The beauty of the ocean is even with its inconsistency, it will still supply for next time!

Yewwww! Incoming!

Yeh thanks for that mate - just trying to give my water-photography work a bit more exposure on the platform. Its a shame you feel the need to use your power in this way and somewhat ironic you should give yourself an upvote.

yeeeew. Looks like an epic day, love the go pro photo's. Do you do much post editing for the go pro photo's, if so do you use photoshop ?

Yeee brother, weve had some good swell on this side of the coast recently! The quality of the GoPro is better than i originally expected, at least for what im producing at the moment anyway. As far as editing goes it varies on the photograph. I use only photoshop (CS4) and generally try to find a balance of colour and shade/shadow to bring out the soul of the image.

Although saying that ive recently started to use masks and filters such as the motion blur in the pic of the session, that took a bit longer to edit but it is worth it for the final result :)

btw ive just replied to your comment on my previous video too!

stokeeed! best feed I follow! thanks for the waves!
