Shop shots week 5. It's been a busy/boring week, but we got pizza!
Welcome gearheads to another edition of Ed's shop shots. This week we are still overrun with winter tires, so I'll try to make it more exciting. The above mustang was in a few weeks ago before the snow fell.
Let's start off with a worn out clutch. There is likely still asbestos in clutch and brake pads, it's quite diffucult to get the composition from the manufacturers.
The friction material is worn almost too nothing.
Perfect shiney and new! The new clutch and pressure plate is a "stage IV" piece. The finished project had a very stiff pedal and an instant 'grab, the clutch goes from disengaged to fully engaged with no slipping.
We have a cool new tool. This press lets us make custom air conditioning hoses. Yes it is winter here, but I'm building a crazy Mustang that will be a cool ride for next summer.
Just slip the fitting over the hose and tighten the shaft on the tool. Boom custom made like a professional.
Winter tires are still a hot commodity here in Saskatchewan, they've been taking up most of my time.
I call this one the "Leaning Tire of Pisa".
There's a big snow chunk melting over the grate too.
Many Ford's have a very poor strategy to detect cylinder misfires. This truck didn't even have a related trouble codes, so some detective work was in order.
Cylinder number 4 had water in the spark plug well. Water conducts electricity so the plug was not firing at all. The water source may have been from melting snow or maybe washing the engine or maybe gremlins.
This is cylinder #1, nice and clean.
The vehicles owner declined any further repair, maybe they'll tackle it themselves.
Tool warning, Ed doesn't always follow the rules.
I'm not quite sure why but Mr.boss man bought us lunch. Yeah even a pizza cookie!

What years the 'stang? My guess is 65, but I'm pretty awful at this game. Without the full grill I could be out by a decade.

I like inventive tools. Here we need to make a lot of our own because we can't find anything to do the job we want it to do. Love the Pizza and cookie tool kit!
