How to know Official ShadowBot Accounts!

in #shadowbot6 years ago (edited)

We are noticing a few accounts being created that resemble our name(s) and we want to ensure no one is tricked if any of these accounts decide to try to impersonate us. To be clear, THIS is the ONLY official ShadowBot account.

ALL news regarding ShadowBot will always be posted here!

You can also ensure that an account is ACTUALLY associated with us by looking at our followers. @shadowbot will ONLY follow accounts that are directly associated with the ShadowBot system (such as @shadowchat). If you ever need to confirm if an account is actually associated with @shadowbot simply check if we follow them. If we do not follow the account, it is not officially associated with us!

For example, we currently only follow @shadowchat which is our official real time chat sister account! You can verify that we are officially associated by seeing we both follow ONLY eachother back. Mutual follow backs are the way you can verify that an account claiming to be associated with @shadowbox actually is!

Thank you again everyone for being part of this great community! We have not had any direct issues yet with impersonations but we do want to take the precaution before it ever is a problem!

How is that possible ? I don't understand. Please help us @shadowbot

They had a very unique situation, @nateonsteemit and @nathanpiatt are the same person. They lost their master key for @nathanpiatt (https://shadowbot.us/shadowbot/dashboard.php?shadow_id=1518). We agreed to allow them to make their old account 1 Shadow Rank in exchange for their new account getting the Shadow Rank they had earned (17).

This is a case by case decision we make and we made sure it was fair.

Even if they recover their original master key and begin using their old account, it will begin at 1 Shadow Rank, just like all new users.

This was simply a Shadow Rank Swap between 2 accounts. No additional Shadow Rank was given out.

Thanks for the answer. We try to obey every rule of shadow. But this account is new and rank 17. Of course, I am shocked :-) I understand you and account owner are right. Good job.

We felt it made sense in this case, they asked for their rank back nicely and we proposed a swap so even if they did one day find their master key it would not be an unfair false boost to their new account. The "swap" ensures that they can still access the funds they earn with their new account, retain the Shadow Rank they fairly earned, and ensure that they are not unfairly able to use their old account in the future starting ahead of everyone else. Their new account started at 1 and old was at 17, we simply swapped the 2 ranks so they could continue on earning and still access their funds while ensuring everything is fair to all.

Just being curious: The account will not start dropping to a lower Shadow Rank? I mean less SP, less posts made with earnings other than shadowbotvotes, etc. Don't get me wrong, I think the swap is fair and legit. But is it even possible to drop to a lower Shadow Rank (unless someone is removing the account from shadowbot ofc)?

No the lowest Shadow Rank is 1 and this was a one time swap which will not result in any difference for how Boosts are calculated.

But wouldn't that be a moral hazard, when a high shadowbot user, something like >50 Shadow Rank with a high amount of SP, starts powering down, without loosing some of his shadow rank? It's quite nice not being able to drop in the Shadow Rank, reduces the stress, but that scenario seems to be a little bit problematic.

That is why we have the new metrics in place that use your Shadow Rank, your Steem Power and your Voting Power to decide your Voting Weight and Pool Priority. This ensures a fair allocation to all members and discourages powering down.

Has Shadow a Discord channel?

No we will be on ShadowChat later this month when it goes public for everyone to reach us.

Thanks. Of course, when there is a chat, everything will be easy.

Slated release date is March 1st if all goes well in our testing the next few weeks! https://steemit.com/steemit/@shadowbot/minor-upgrades-this-week-in-preparation-for-tartarus-2-0-release

Do you plan to use SteemConnect to enable logins to ShadowBot? Right now, I need to enter my login credentials each time I access ShadowBot's dashboard. I feel a little nervous about entering my unmasked Private Key each time I login.

Steem Connect is simply an API and is primarily used for front ends which do not require storing the private posting key. The very nature of our system is automating processes even when you are not online so there would be no added benefit to using a client facing API. Even utilizing an API on the client side would only allow access locally to things while you are signed in, the full functionality of ShadowBot requires us to store your key in our encrypted wallet in order to automate processes 24/7.

Thank you for the clarification!

Hi @shadowbot. I'm new to steem. I heard about you from my friends and want to join your service.

Glad to have you on board! Simply go to your wallet and grab your Private Posting Key and login to our system, once you are logged in your account is created and you are done!

Hi @shadowbot I am not getting vote nor going my upvote to others. Help me to be as a member of shadowbot.

You need to grab your Private Posting Key and sign in on our login page. If you use the wrong key it will not register your account.

Thanks for helping, I am already a register member. My name is not in the casters list.

You have to use your private posting key to register, In wallet on steemit you will see a posting key that starts with "STM" this is the PUBLIC posting key. You will see a button to the right that says "Show Private Key". Click that and you will see your Private Posting Key. That is the key you need to use to join.

I find this confusing:
"Mutual follow backs are the way you can verify that an account claiming to be associated with @shadowbox actually is!"

I wonder, is that a typo? or shadowbox is something official?
maybe the wording is just strange to me?

We have noticed accounts that are being created that have names that could easily be confused as ShadowBot. We wanted to make it easy and clear for everyone to verify accounts that are actually associated with us and those that are attempting to pretend they are associated with us or worse attempt to trick someone into giving their keys to a phishing website!

that makes sense, but the way I read it the post references @shadowbox as official while explaining a method to determine that it actually isn't :)

I am on shadowbot, but I do not know how to be a good user? can I find somewhere what i should do to have the best results?
