Sepia Saturday: Paying Tribute To The Past With Flowers

in #sepiasaturday5 years ago (edited)

Happy Saturday fellow Steemians...

I'd like to share with you some pictures from today, along with a bit of tribute... sepia style...

Let's give props first on this #sepiasaturday; a challenge created by @old-guy-photos

So...to my post...

My other half's mother passed several years ago; her favorite flower was a poinsettia... so we have always bought one as the holidays approached. As they usually do...Christmas comes...and goes... and they die and get put outside in our yard. This year, for some reason, the poinsettia has started to re-bloom.

My other half fixes me scrambled eggs for breakfast every morning (she's good to me) so I can take my M.S. medicine. What little bit of milk and egg is left in the bowl after she pours into the frying pan... she has been pouring into the dirt on the poinsettia.
Is this what has made the poinsettia re-bloom? Or is it some sign of mom saying, "hello loved ones...I'm with you..." We like to think the latter...

It was nice outside today, so we decided to go outside, and see what other flowers might be coming up...

There are peonies coming up! Those will end up in a future post I assure you!

It's getting late, and my attempt at this macro shot of the hyacinth coming up was slightly out of focus...but I hope you get the "vibe" I was going for... We were happy to be able to get outside; it was almost 61 degree's today, and though we are tired and worn out (@stealthunicorn was helping) ... it's always nice to be this way because you accomplished something.

I hope you've enjoyed this addition to the #sepiasaturday challenge; its always cool to get outside and get some photographs, and slap a little sepia tone on them. All photos were taken by me and edited with the LunaPic Editor I do hope you are having a wonderful weekend, and as always... thank you very much for taking the time to view my post!

Lovely sepia shots. How exciting that the poinsettias are blooming again! I never heard of putting egg or milk into the dirt. I am so jealous that you have temperatures over 60 while we still struggle to stay above 40. Have a wonderful day and thank you for sharing. !tip

Oh how I love spring! Great to meet you Wes, though your photographs, and what a wonderful mustache you have!

Let's figure out how to get your internet paid each month, I think if you set a goal you could earn it here on steem!

The pleasure is mine... thanks for the kind words and compliment on my mustache!! I'd love to be able to pay for my internet by interacting here.

That would be quite a challenge for the cost... no matter #tomorrowisthegoal

What does internet cost? What is the internet situation?

I struggled with internet for many years on our farm in Colombia. I would walk 45 minutes to the nearest internet cafe to do my homework or check my email. I rented a usb connector for certain periods (they charged by the day), which was working okay, but eventually became deprecated as all telecom companies removed unlimited plans. When we finally had enough money to consider looking into buying our own plan, we were about 3 months too late to get an 'unlimited' plan and get grandfathered in.

So then we entered the terrible world of pay per gigabyte. We got really pretty good at limiting our consumption of data, but of course if you can't watch youtube videos, its not really internet! But we would rip all the videos from our classes at the internet cafe, and bring them back to watch on the farm.

My computer was still a decent typewriter, so I could write, but none of the oh-so-convenient concurrent research while writing.

In the end, it was family that helped us out. My brother @arangoaqet moved back to town, and we split the internet bill with him. That way, we have a place to go to have good, constant internet, and with a pre-pay cell plan (not disimilar to tracfone) we can use all the lessons we learned about internet reduction to stay connected when we are on the farm.

I hope you get it sorted, even if its just connecting once a week, I find it therapeutic to steem. And when it's not unlimited, it tastes sweeter.

Enjoyed chatting with you today my friend. Managed to make a payment arrangement... so good for one more month!!

That means we have one more month to increase our earnings on steem! Happy to hear it :)

Indeed... and thank you, my friend!

🎁 Hi @wesphilbin! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @wandrnrose7!

Nice photos!!
Ive never heard of putting egg and milk on plants before! Well, Ive heard of milk, but Ive always been afraid of attracting gnats and such...
Glad it rebloomed! I think it is fantastic no matter the reason it bloomed. ♥

Thank you again; we have put egg shells, used coffee and tea grounds in our dirt. Mind you outside, but still try to keep things as organic as possible... you know. The only time we ever had problems with gnats, was using Miracle Grow soil. I looked it up, and it seems there are numerous complaints about bugs, gnats, etc in that brand of soil. We were getting a better quality soil from Sedalia, Mo...but it's in the summertime for a short period... Anyway, thank you again for your kind words

Yes, I also get gnats when I use thatpotting mix! I try and use compost and worm castings, and things of that nature when possible. I also keep it organic as I can, and am always looking for ways to fertilize veggies naturally. :)

I really like how these turned out. We got snow today.

Thank you my friend...

And much love, but you can keep the snow lol

These all came out awesome in Sepia, have a super Sunday
