"The End of Natural Motherhood?"
It's no secret that they've been working on artificial wombs for decades, but where will this lead us? Will we see humans completely removed from reproduction altogether?
Just look at the content I have compiled and tell me what you think.
First and most disturbing is this video; "Par-tu-ri-ent", a concept incubator that could be "The Artificial Womb of the Future"
Artificial Womb
The couple in the pictures (and in the video below) whose outfits bear a striking resemblance to the outfits in the 80's film adaptation of the book; Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. The two play a couple who are expecting a child, however the child is gestating in a capsule that simulates the environment of woman's womb.
The couple can interact with the fetus with a type of microphone that can record and play their voices, music, etc. In one screen shot the mother to be is wearing a portable version of the recording device but with an additional feature of simulated motion. This means that when the mother rocks the device back and forth, this motion will be mimicked by the incubator at home.
In the next couple frames you can see what looks like a purée being poured into a container that can be inserted into the artificial womb to provide sustenance to the growing fetus, developing the child's food preferences in the future.
"The pod will keep track of what the baby has eaten and what it needs to stay healthy"
"At night the pod will go through the updates made by the hospital with the information obtained throughout the day"

The connotations of artificial birth are quite disturbing and listening to the scripted interview in this next video just adds to this effect.
PARTURIENT INTERVIEW
After the interviewees reveal that they cannot conceive a child themselves and wish to adopt an embryo, the interviewer offers the option of specifying the embryo, meaning you can adjust and design the embryo up to 80%, practically making it appear as if it was their own child. The couple decides to go with 50% to leave for some surprise.
The interviewer goes on to ask what gender would they like the child to be, even suggesting 'gender neutral' as it is a "popular option these days". They decide on a boy but would like it to have some feminine features.
The interviewer then asks what life purposes would they like their child to have? They respond with a hyperbaric welder (They heard about it on the news), something they figure makes sense due to the 'rising sea level'.
The interviewer says he can't guarantee that would happen but what he can do is increase lung capacity, a feature available in the 'talent package' in addition he will include part of the 'workshop package' which will give the child a high skill set in tools. He also offers to give the child hyper focused capabilities. After that They move on with eye color options and that's basically the end of the interview.
Aside from the parents it's all very similar to the story line in 'Brave New World'. If you haven't read this book, now's the time.
Although this was all a concept piece made by students for a Biodesign Challenge Summit it's still very indicative of the direction we are heading in science and the mentality that goes with it.

It is interesting the role that science fiction has in predicting/guiding scientific progresses.
Indeed. The apt term I've come to learn is called "Predictive Programming"
Predictive programming has been used throughout time as psychological conditioning to aquint the public to planned changes. So if and when these changes occur, the public will already be familiarized with them and will accept them as natural progressions.

Also on that subconscious guiding role within Science fiction, I think it's a real shame that the future is always either depicted as a utopian/dystopian hyper-technological world with very little interaction between humans and the natural world... or the complete opposite with society having fallen apart and nature being a ravaging force to struggle against. Science fiction rarely seems to depict a nice healthy middle of the line where humans are moderately using technology to overcome important challenges facing humanity but also maintaining a healthy grounded interaction with the natural world.
Yes, sometimes I feel a bit concerned when I notice certain recurring trends in sci fi films! Recently I've noticed a lot of films depicting contact with extra terrestrials and humanity having to form a one world government solution in order to be able to deal with the threat (specifically the second independence day film and arrival)... feels like grooming for acceptance of a one-world government which I don't quite fancy.
Well said. I don't like it either. In fact because of it, I don't watch much tv and practically zero movies these days.
I have a constant inner critical analysis going through my head when I watch most films/tV series! Avoid actual tv like the plague!
I'm the same. my wife gets annoyed when we're watching a show and I'm pointing out all the agendas being pushed lol. I try to keep it to myself most of the time though.
Yes- it can get a bit overboard. Of course might all be genuine chaotic muppetness as well.
I haven't seen the second Independence Day film, but I did see an interesting exposé on how it was one of those co-operations with the US military projects, such that it even led to recruitment...
I watched it and a little bit of sick came into my mouth a few times during it :)

This is crazy stuff!
It's all part of an evil transhumanistic agenda to remove the need for women in the birthing process and breed androgyny for the future. We can see the signs for this in genderless public restroom talk, medical experiments and surgery, and that more than 90% of high paid hollywood actresses are male to female transsexuals.
Okay so I'm reading this and thinking existential thoughts and then I get to the period one and think, whyyyyyy? Why would you make a robot suffer pain and mess and uncontrollable leaking and did I mention pain and hormone swings and so on? The point of a period is to discard any unused eggs and cushioning if the woman didn't become pregnant that month. Why would you stick eggs and endometrial cells to do their thing in a robot only to be cycled out, instead of only sticking them in there when you want to make a baby? Periods are awful. Even if they deleted the pain and hormones and uterine cysts and endometriosis and all of the "something has gone wrong" problems, you're still frikkin' uncontrollably leaking for days. Don't copy that. It's a terrible design.
I completely stopped thinking ethics and started thinking "Cis men must have thought that was a good idea... nobody who has ever had a period would think, 'More beings should experience this!'"
Now maybe I'll go read the article. Or maybe not. It sounds horrifying.
There's a video in the robot period article and all the scientists featured in the video talking about Evatar (that's it's name) are females lol.
