Plastic Is Destroying The Eco-Systems - Let's Use Hemp, Glass & Paper Packaging!

in #science6 years ago

The oil industry is responsible for an unmeasured amount of death and suffering on Earth. From the wars fought for oil baring territory, through to the pollution caused during it's collection and use and on into the effects of the variety of products that are made from it - somehow oil always seems to cause serious problems.

This video demonstrates the shocking ways that our use of plastic in manufacturing and convenience products has brought us to a kind of plastic tipping point, where a huge number of eco-systems and lives are threatened just so that we can look at shiny packages and have clean products in shops. There's actually no need to use all this plastic as hemp based, fully bio degrading alternatives are more than adequate and failing that we can use glass and paper - just like the old days'.

It is getting really scary. I love going to beaches and seeing plastics floating, being thrown in our seas breaks my heart and angers me. I don't understand why people can sometimes be so irresponsible. I use eco-bags when I shop, I don't usually buy bottled drinks since they're usually sweetened beverages and thank God I don't really like sweets. But to be honest it is really hard when almost all things are made in plastic. I just hope we all cooperate before it's too late.. Thank you for sharing this, hope this message will reach to as many people as possible.. I will resteem this definitely..

I feel that part of this is caused by the competitive culture that is being cultivated all around. When we are disempowered and look at the 'royals' basically having everything that they could ever possibly want - it creates discomfort and we will unconsciously seek anything that gives us a sense of 'convenience' and that our lives are being made easy... As long as people get the conveniences they are content in many cases. Combine this with the fact that many people never go into nature or the oceans and we have a recipe for denial and disaster!

Totally agree with you on that.. If only we'll all be responsible individually with whatever we do, that will make a huge difference..

Yea I am not surprised about this with the rate at which we make use of plastic which are non bio degradable.if we only rely on recycling, we can never get hold of evern single used plastic in the world and so we would still face the same problem of pollution no matter how hard we try.

So the best is for use to go for hemp , Glass or paper packaging.

There was a japanese company that invented a machine that could turn plastic back into oil - but 'strangely' they don't appear to have brought it to market. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the oil industry's heavies.

Huh?? Hows that even possible. What relationship does plastic have with oil....that's just plain amazing.

there's a thread on it here: http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=67107
in the comments they say it must use a lot of energy to complete the process and so it might not really be very practical.

Packaging waste needs to be made the responsibility of the companies that profit from the product, I think. They need to be made to take it back. Then true recycling/reusing might happen.

I was impressed by a program I saw years ago in Denmark where you could return almost all of your grocery recycling to automated machines outside the grocery store and get credit for your next purchase. At least, that is what I remember. Maybe someone from Denmark can tell us if that still happens?

Great subject!

Everyone has the responsibility to do whatever they can not to support those who produce products that cause such problems - I did do that fully for a number of years but eventually I reached the point where I could not avoid buying things that used a lot of plastic. I always favour enlightenment over control by governments.

I agree. Responsibility also comes back to us and our purchasing decisions, but as you point out, it can be very difficult to always avoid it. I do think that growing our food and encouraging self sufficiency is the way to go, but certainly not something that everyone is going to embrace right away. Unfortunately, I can't help but think if we rely on consumers to 'just say no', even when educated, there will be little change. Great discussion!

Resteemed. : )

The more people that become self sufficient, the more evidence there will be of the value of doing so and I am confident it will not be long before it can be shown that the groups that do this have higher levels of health, wealth and enjoyment of life. There are those among us who actually don't even want life at all and it might certainly be difficult for them to be motivated to change - part of what is needed is to make organic growing cheaper to produce and that also takes awareness and intention to do so. Many people don't even know there are effective organic alternatives to synthetic fertiliser, for example - as amazing as that may be!

Many people agree with you - plastic is harmful and slowly destroys the ecology. But try to prove it to manufacturers of products that use plastic to save their money and make more money on their products. Glass and paper for them are more expensive material than plastic. They do not think about the ecology and health of consumers - they do their business. Only state laws can stop this disgrace.

Promotion of hemp based plastics would change all this - I am still not 100% clear why there aren't giant hemp plantations!

I think that people who illegally grow drugs will gladly plant giant plantations. Simply, the society will not allow this, because all people know 100% that hemp is death for a person. Unfortunately, as far as plastic is concerned, not all people in the community understand that plastic is harmful and dangerous. Therefore, plastic is produced in large quantities.

I'm not sure what you mean - hemp plantations were the main source of material for many industries for a very long time before world war 1 . hemp can be grown legally, with no psychoactive compounds involved, but for some reason it isn't generally done.

Because, there will be a situation that will be similar to scandals with charity. If the producers have an official permission to grow cannabis, you can imagine for what purposes they will start to grow it - not just for industry. Additionally, illegal business in the production of drugs will be made in large quantities.

There are already growers of industrial hemp - I don't think they need a license for it as it is just an other plant, provided it is not of specific strains that are psychoactive. There is no problem with the legality or practicality of growing it as far as I am aware, but for some reason it hasn't been mass adopted. The cause could simply be that oil based plastic has cornered the market and there isn't enough motivation to compete with them.

Maybe you're right. I'm not a professional in this matter. In any case, I believe, like you, that the manufacture of plastic is a great harm to everyone. To date, the only fight against him is that people would refuse to buy products that are in plastic. When producers lose demand for their products in plastic, maybe then they will think about this issue and stop using plastic.

Seriously, we can make plastic-like materials out of plants... like why isn't it a bigger thing

I'm guessing the oil industry's control of the governments has most of the answers there.

I still believe that plastic can be recycled in such a way that the integrity of mother nature is preserved, for I stop to wonder, if Plastic is completely scraped, what will become of millions around the world whose existence is directly or indirectly financed by one stage of the production and distribution chain of plastic or the other?

On the other hand, in Africa there are some foods that are sold wrapped with leaves, e.g a certain bean cake called "Moi Moi" I don't know whether to call this a good initiative 😊

Alternatives already exist in the form of plastics made from hemp - there's no problem with them as far as I know.

Plastics are non biodegradable, thereby causing a lot of pollution in the world

Great post friend, greetings very good job. I wish you luck!!

Thanks for great dtube..i appreciate this life..all the best...

Plastic is also destroying us from the inside out!
