Australian Bees Build Fucking Cool Spiral Nests, Flat-Earther Launches in Two Weeks, Sexy Botox Camels Banned From Beauty Contest And Researchers Discover Why 200,000 Saigas Died in 3 Weeks
Well that was a fucking big and not very well-thought title! So, here's another random mashup of new stories that peaked my interest today!
1. Australian Sting-less Bees Build Fucking Cool Spiral Nests
Thanks to an image originally posted on reddit I now know two things. First, not all bees pack a sting! There are about 500 species with no sting! And second, the Australian stingless bee Tetragonula carbonaria loves to build cool spiral nests like the one depicted above.
But is there a special reason why they build nests like that? Although there has been some research on the topic, we still don't know if there's some evolutionary advantage behind the spiral nests or if it's just something that came out randomly.. Who knows, just another mystery waiting to be unveiled. Sorry if the answer disappointed you, here have a cool video to geta better idea of how these nests look like. Just jump to 7:28 if you want to skip the lovely old man:
2. Flat-Earth Rocketman Says He Will Launch in Two Weeks
Mike And His Almost Finished DIY Rocket (credit)
A few months back, Mike Hughes, a strong believer of the flat earth theory had announced his plans to build a small rocket that would take him to a height of about 550 meters. If all went well, he would then jump out of the rocket with a parachute and take pics of earth during the descend. Obviously, the purpose of that experiment would be to prove once and for all the validity of the flat earth theory. Unfortunately, the experiment was delayed because it wasn't "easy" or something and he needed more time to perfect the rocket!
But the wait is almost over! According to his facebook page he is almost ready to launch! Rumors say he is also preparing his Darwin award speech!
In all seriousness though. How can a guy be so smart to build his own rocket and so stupid at the same time to not think of a much, much cheaper alternative if he only plans to go 550 meters up? Hasn't he heard of air balloons? Or... you know.. just climb a mountain or something.. I can't imagine he is that stupid. Just a stupid publicity stunt if you ask me..
3. Camels Disqualified for Botox use In Saudi Camel Beauty Festival
Got a sexy camel? Then make sure to participate in the annual King Abdulaziz Camel Festival! But no cheating! In Saudi Arabia they don't joke with this shit as they are lovers of true, natural beauty.. at least when it comes to their camels! In this year's show, which runs from January 1 to February 1, 12 camels have already been disqualified for botox use:
"They use Botox for the lips, the nose, the upper lips, the lower lips and even the jaw. It makes the head more inflated so when the camel comes it’s like, ‘Oh look at how big is that head is. It has big lips, a big nose.” said Ali Al Mazrouei, 31, a regular attendee at Gulf festivals and son of a top Emirati breeder. (source)
But what makes a camel sexy? Well, yeah height, shape and placement of the hump are all important. But if you want to win one of the top prizes and become a millionaire pick a camel that has a full & droopy lip! And again.. No cheating!

4. Researchers Discover Why 200,000 Saiga Antelopes Died Mysteriously in Just 3 Weeks
(credit)
If this is the first time you see the animal depicted above you might think it's some made-up creature from star wars or something. Rest assured, the saiga antelope (Saiga tatarica) is a real, critically endangered animal found in Kalmykia, three areas of Kazakhstan and in two isolated areas of Mongolia
And now researchers have managed to unveil one of the greatest mysteries surrounding its existence, or better, it's almost not existence. One day in May of 2015, a bunch of them dropped dead. Next day, same thing happened. And then shit got serious. In just three weeks about 200.000 (62% of the total population) saigas went to the other world.
So, according to new research, these unique creatures drop dead due to hemorrhagic septicemia caused by the bacterium Pasteurella multocida. Normally, this is a totally harmless bacterium that lives in the antelopes' tonsils. However, it appears that the unusually warm and moist weather of the past years in the animals distribution range triggers the bacteria to overgrow and long story short go into the bloodstream and cause death! Sad :(
So, that's pretty much the stuff I wanted to talk for today! Make sure to visit all the links provided to learn more for these stories!
Damn, that was a heck of a post. Death, sexy camels, cool bees and crazy flat earthers! What else can a man ask to see in their news feed?
See you tomorrow :P
Wow, 62% of a species dead from climate change. Crazy stuff. Great feed overall!
Yeah, take that nature!
You should maybe start with : Things I love : before the :
Just saying :) It can be distracting for new steemians who chek you out:) You could also do a "logo" in .PNG over the pic you choose to upload. You have been here WAY LONGER than I did so this is maybe weird. But thought why not share my thoughts :)
Love the things you picked btw. the first made me want to visit a guys who keeps bees here in Holland, and ask him if he ever saw a thing like that :O

Text never was the way human communication was meant to be. You seriously made my heart pump faster when chekking out my "replies" section. Than when I arrived back at your post. I did manage to start laughing and relieving all that built up tension for the 4 seconds that it lasted.

Smoke signals are the way the creator meant us to communicate
hehehehhe
Did the camels end up like the antelope in the picture after excessive botox use?
Congrats, you won the internet for today!
Great summary of interesting topics! It is always a joy to read your articles. :)
... And you were right, at least for me: I never saw the Saiga Antelope before.^^
Best,

I am just happy people enjoy my posts :D
It is amazing what nature can create and do!! :D
What is even more amazing is our ability to fuck it up XD
I mean I would do it with a rocket still (because launching rockets is fun) but rather than putting myself in the rocket I would design it with a bunch of cameras pointing in every direction and have it fly (higher than 550 meters) and once it starts to fall back down (using an accelerometer as a detector) have a parachute, or 12, get deployed. Record both the flight up and back down
Nature is truly awesome. Imagine how organized bees can be to be able to construct this "castle" :) Some humans need to learn from bees :D
Nice piece buddy
Yeah, there so many things to learn from all kinds of animals ^_^
Exactly buddy. And I guess I'm learning a lot.
Don't let them know I'm learning from animals :D
I came here for pictures of sexy camels and there was none :(
I would have to use the NSFW tag if I did, which means less visibility! Sorry for that!
wow thats amazing what bees can do! trumpman thank you
