why would humans want to accelerate the development of brain power instead of leaving it to the normal millions of years time?

The question is why not?

Maybe it could lead to a scientific discovery so advanced and so crazy that current humans would not be able to properly cope or interpret it? What if a technology infinitely more powerful than nuclear technology is found? What if it was possible to wipe out the entire solar system with just a single accident?
