After the break of the iceberg A-68, state of the Antarctic ice.

October 14-2017

Good morning, afternoon, night depending on where the reader is.

We start with the sunspots as always.
After the month of September with much activity in terms of sunspots. October is leaving us for the moment six consecutive days without sunspots. Which raises the number of days without sunspots so far this year to 62. In other words, 22% of days without sunspots so far this year. Every day that passes without sunspots is one day further away from the models.

Michelson Doppler Camera (MDI) soho/nasa.

In addition to having the names of groups of sunspots we have in the lower right both the size of the Earth and the size of Jupiter. So we can get an idea of the enormous size of the groups of sunspots.

The sunspots, or rather the absence of them indicates in which part of the solar cycle of 11 years in which we are.

According to some theories, the Earth's climate is greatly affected by this cycle. More heat during the solar maximum, colder during the solar minimum.
There is much more to tell but this is roughly what I have been trying to explain with the presentation of some scientific studies on this subject.
For more information, read my previous articles.

As for coronal holes we have that coronal hole in the northern hemisphere of the Sun. Black in this wavelength due to its lower temperature compared to the other areas of the solar corona.

Summary

Current conditions of space weather are G1 storm. As we can see according to the Noaa. The solar wind speed is at 693 km / sec and the proton density is 7.8 protons per cubic centimeter according to the NASA Modeling Center.

After the break of the iceberg A-68, state of the Antarctic ice.

After all the sensationalism seen in the media when there was the break of a large part of the Larsen C platform of Antarctica …

Last July many media outlets on the cover as an immense iceberg of the largest in history was separated from the platform Larsen C.

The huge Iceberg was named A-68. With an extension of 58,000 square kilometers made it one of the largest icebergs in history. But of course this is nothing new as the follow-up of the Larsen C gap has been studied since 1995, Larsen A broke, and years later, in 2002, the same happened with Larsen B.

Let's look at the state of the Antarctic shelf after that huge loss of ice.

Remember that 58,000 square kilometers is more or less the extension of Maryland plus Massachusetts. For Europeans the iceberg is the approximate size of Croatia, or Denmark plus Cyprus.

As we can see in the graph of the top realized with the measurements of the University of Bremen, in spite of the enormous loss of ice that supposed the breakage of the platform Larsen C, the accumulated ice sum 18.07 million square kilometers. We also observe in this graph that we are within the mean of the historical series 1981-2010. And there is also more ice accumulated than last year at this time.

After 31 years since the first historical series began and a few huge Icebergs that have caused ice loss and find ourselves in the Global Warming Era, the accumulated ice remains the same or even increasing.

The frozen continent of the south pole is fine as far as ice accumulated, but the north pole is thawed ..

Sure?

Huh?!.. No.

For those of you who read me this graph is familiar to you. Since I've been showing the state of the Arctic platform for some time. As you can see, there are not only 800,000 square kilometers more than last year. But it is within the average 1981-2010.

Great news from the poles !!

With this data let each draw their own conclusions.

But I keep asking myself..

If in the Global Warming Era the ice at the poles is maintained or increased. What will happen next?

Enjoy your day. Enjoy your life.

Great post. But won't the breaking of ice still have an effect on water levels?

It would have a great impact if the water of the A-68 iceberg will go from solid state to liquid in a short period of time. And that does not happen. On top of that the Antarctic ice would have to decrease. If the Antarctic platform continues to grow at this rate the sum of water that becomes ice is much larger than the water resulting from that iceberg.

So, it's all relative?

Very interesting! I think I will resteem this because I have been telling people for a long time that it is the solar activity that makes the major weather changes and not carbon dioxide. There are also graphs that correlate major solar flares to wars and human unrest. Upvoting and following.

When people become aware of the size of the sun, their enormous and incredible power and how their different cycles have affected life on our planet, they will better understand the climatic processes of different geological ages. Until that happens they will continue to believe Al Gore's nonsense.
Thank you very much!

I totally agree.

Great post. But won't the breaking of ice still have an effect on water levels?

Although I have already answered a similar question. We have to keep in mind that this iceberg can take years to melt. It is a very slow process. As long as the ice accumulated on the Antarctic platform continues to increase, everything will be fine.

Wow what a write up. This is so thrilling
