NASA: Human Devastation Creates a Protective Layer For The Earth

in #science6 years ago

In the 1960s, the U.S. military fired billions of fine copper wires into the satellite orbit to build an artificial protective layer. At that time, people hoped that these materials could be gradually connected into a ring-shaped protective layer to guard the Earth's communications system, so as to prevent the key weapons of the Cold War from being destroyed by the solar storm. However, this is of no use. A recent study shows that this unresolved plan can be finally resolved by the power of the universe alone.

NASA announced last month that its detectors found a man-made protective layer around the Earth. The protective layer is formed by the interaction of radio waves from the ground with particles of high-energy radiation in space that protect the Earth from solar activity such as flares.

The Earth itself has the protection of a magnetosphere, which is located outside the atmospheric ionosphere and is full of plasma, controlled by the geomagnetic field and surrounded by the solar wind. However, NASA's discovery was somewhat unexpected. Unlike the natural formation of the protective layer, it was a work of human science and technology. The key to achieving this vast project turned out to be a humble technology - ultra-low frequency radio waves.

Ultra-low frequency radio was originally designed for communication with submarines. Its launch base station was on the ground and therefore had to have very high energy to reach its destination. Unexpectedly, Liu did not expect this kind of electromagnetic waves to be able to catch the turtles under the ocean of five oceans, but also to catch the moon on nine days. They propagated to the atmosphere and interacted with the electromagnetic particles reflected in the area. Under certain conditions, this effect can form a barrier that can be observed by the spacecraft.

The discovery was completed by a fully automated detector launched in 2012 with the mission itself to probe Van Allen radiation belts. The Van Allen radiation belt is based on the Earth's magnetic field to maintain both the inner and outer ionosphere, they are like a donut set on the earth.

Dan Baker, director of the Atmospheric and Space Physics Laboratory at the University of Colorado, used to think that the boundaries of the Allen radiation belt were an "insurmountable obstacle," but based on satellite observations, the inner edge of the Van Allen radiation belts was more intense than the 60's When the Earth farther, when the people did not use the large-scale ultra-low frequency wireless communications. In a recent study published, scientists found that the outer edge of the artificial protective layer was very close to the inner edge of the Van Allen radiation band, it seems to indicate that ultra-low frequency radio waves can effectively push the radiation particles away from Earth, and scientists suspect that if we do not use Ultra-low frequency wireless communication technology, van Allen radiation belt may have wandered around the earth.

So this artificial protective layer will have any impact on our lives? Researchers believe that the newly discovered protective layer can protect the Earth from the huge solar flares energy. The hot plasma ejected from the coronal mass ejection is also effectively blocked. Otherwise, the radiated particles can easily reach the Earth's atmosphere, disrupt the electromagnetic signals and cause the grid to overload. In the future, ultra-low frequency wireless communication technology may be used to purify the radiation environment around the earth.

This layer of protection has also greatly expanded the sphere of human influence. We diverted rivers, harvested woodlands and even affected the climate. We have used science and technology to leave indelible marks on the surface of the earth. Today, we find that science and technology can even transform the near-Earth space.
