Nuclear fusion and its most imminent future

This technology is considered to be the energy of the future, it's an eternal and practically clean energy based on something so present on earth as water. Its functioning is easily explained, two hydrogen atoms fuse to make one of helium but it takes a lot of energy for this to happen, there's the real problem to make it a reality.

This enormous amount of energy necessary for such a fusion is only available to the core of the stars, if we used nuclear power plants for this purpose we'd have to use so much energy to activate the reactors and keep them running that the energy balance would be negative.

MIT intends to start a project to generate efficient and profitable energy by fusion within a period of 15 years, for this purpose it's intended to build a pilot plant with this type of energy, which would practically feed on water and be clean, with hardly any waste.

This project, at the moment, is in an initial stage, which has been injected with 50 million dollars. The idea revolves around a generation of high temperature superconductors that have been marketed in recent years by MIT and its partner, Commonwealth Fusion Systems of Cambridge.

These more powerful superconductors would allow to strengthen the magnetic field that contains the hot plasma fuel used in traditional reactors, this would allow to build smaller reactors, easy to handle and profitable from the energy point of view, which would generate helium from hydrogen.
