A fragile flame is not to be underestimated. Yet the vastness of my inquisition troubles me.

The gods swore revenge upon Prometheus, for what he did.

Prometheus, who brought fire, and understanding of that fire, from the gods, to the mortals, allowed us to begin our technological development, and kill the gods.

But before fire, humans were just beasts. Beasts with a mind, but nothing to do with their mind.

They could not cook meat. They could not keep warm. They could not forge metal.

But upon learning the art of fire, they began to grow and evolve, advancing through the ages, until they gained comprehension of two more grand aspects of reality: Simple chemistry and physics. We could not do much at first.

We were weak. Simple alchemy and the most basic understanding of physics, described by Newton as if occult magic, was all we had.

Humans struggled upon the earth, surviving, and only barely thriving, until one more powerful magic was discovered.

Electricity.

With that, we had usurped all gods, except one. But that god was destroyed when humans discovered the third force. Nuclear manipulation, and the power of the elements.

Why was the last god destroyed?

There can be no god when a holocaust occurs, both in Europe, and in Japan, where we used a nuclear bomb in a well populated city, and insane tyrants burned innocent people alive. A terrible thing, yet the nuclear force usurps all gods. To have power over life and death is the power of a god, and when we use that power to slaughter thousands, all in a single flash, even the gods themselves are burned away.

Yet the powers we have revealed still exist, and we can still wield them, with cruelty, or with honor. We require wisdom if we wish to use the gifts of the gods intelligently, so we have become more wise. We had to, lest we face extinction and war. These powers are not to be used frivolously.

Yet there have been rumors of more. Rumors that there could be another power that we can learn to manipulate, one that would change humanity forever. A final god.

The power of gravity.

Of course we feel it each day, even now. But it does not help us. It oppresses us.

Before Prometheus, a forest fire was a thing to run from, to fear.
And it is the same with gravity.

We are crushed and helpless to its vast power, a power that we cannot even begin to truly comprehend. Yet there are some scientists, untouched by the political dramas of the common day, who are searching for the means to manipulate gravity.

I am one of them.

I am searching for a means to defeat gravity, to block gravity, a way to deflect it, to create a pocket of non-gravity, or even enhance gravity.

Some material, a force, a shield, a beam, a wave, an aether-disruptor, something, anything, that can resist gravity, and allow me to harness its might. I must defeat it. It weighs heavily upon my heart, this feeling that there must be a way to manipulate it, yet I do not know how.

Fire, electricity, nuclear, computers, even the genetic code, all of it kneels before us, and now humanity must conquer gravity. Without the power of gravity, we are still helpless mortals, facing a god too large to even see.

Like a fly before an elephant, there is nothing in my view except a miserable gray. I must persevere.

I must conquer gravity.
