Like The Sims, real life is coded by humans, Part II

in #science6 years ago (edited)

Going further based on @nonsowrites's pertinent questions on my initial post.

this is how tech guys describe the second coming of Jesus Christ.

This would have been the first coming, not the second. If you play Civilization, at some point you get enough of the Faith resource to choose a religion. We don't actually see it happening, but that religious choice is retroactive. With enough imagination, we can fill in the gaps of our expansion and culture so far.

If we have good enough code and tech, we don't have to leave it to imagination, because it is computed for us. In our universe's case, every choice the players make will alter our past, present and future, nearly on the fly.

I mean, for how long did Jesus effectively act, really? Three years. It's unrealistic to believe he had all of this impact in such a short span of time if he didn't teleport and humans were not forced to believe in him. This is not something like walking on water can do.

Question: How about those who think we are a product of a cosmic accident, what analogy best explains their standpoint

Random seed generation. There are many games using an algorithm to decide randomness based on a given number. Minecraft is one of them. The code knows how to shape land and buildings, but because it is necessary to create something different every time, generation picks a random number and makes decisions based on it, although obeying the same method.

It is already strongly believed we are in a multiverse, regardless of it being simulated or not. If our universe is not the only one, each of them could be born from a different seed, which predetermines the outcome of everything. The developers would be looking for something specific, like what lifeforms could arise if it is left to chaos, or how often cilivizations reach space colonization and at what age.

This can even answer the Fermi Paradox regarding alien life. If we really are alone in the universe, it isn't in the developer's interest to process more than one type of intelligent life form at once. It could be too expensive or out of the project's scope, like how it is unnecessary to develop individual personalities for every NPC in Grand Theft Auto V.

It was pointed out in @cryptogee's post that the hardware running our universe is limited, examplified by the behaviour of light and the general lack of quantum precision, so the above is plausible.

Creator

I also want to add that when a game developer (and people from other crafts) creates something, he often calls himself the creator of, well, his creation. Religiously ambiguous, yet so fitting.

I think Jesus already returned as the Holy Spirit on Pentecost...

Well, why not. As an agnostic, it's not like I'm going to simply deny that fact. In my opinion, none of us can make such claims since we are only our universe's humans, despite of faith, because we only "know" what we're told. I don't really care about the details as long as they're not twisted into excuses to hurt or bully others, which is what a lot of religious people do.

Multiverse is likely, but simulation? I'm not so sure. Could Jesus Christ be an actual creator? Mmmm, I'm not religious, so in my opinion it's unlikely as well, given that humans have existed for at least 300 thousand of years, before any Abrahamic religions even began.

Jesus being a developer is just a logical hypothesis for an actual Jesus under the simulation scenario. Why do you think it is so unlikely that "we're in a matrix"? I really do think we're either a coder's creation or an alien's, for a number of reasons, but I don't put any blind faith into it.

I generally don't put any kind of faith in the matrix scenario mostly because I find the universe badly coded and optimised if life was the developer's intentions. The whole universe is so unfriendly to all living beings and also so vast that most of it is entirely pointless.

Also the Jesus analogy is funny to me, because it would be like the developer's self insert in his own simulation game. And why so much time after? Why have so many civilizations popped up before he even decided to give himself an avatar?

Guess what? New post. Sorry if it is a bit long.
