SAM - Places In The Heart!

in #sam-saturday6 years ago (edited)

A new Saturday! A Saturday when we meet and tell about us. A Saturday that I like.

It's SAM, Something About Me ... a challenge that wants to get us closer!

Obviously we are closer when we know each other better.

So, let's talk about us!

The subject of today should have been another one. I had to talk about my passion for cinema. Recent encounters forced me to change. Because my mother has serious health problems, I had to go urgently to the place where she lives now. She lives in the north of the country, over 400 km away from Bucharest where my home is. She lives in a town called Falticeni, a small town where I grew up and spent my school holidays until I was 16.

The name of the town may be somewhat weird, but this small town in Romania is famous for the large number of writers, artists and scientists who were born or lived here.

Well, I don't fit between them but I love this place and I have the most beautiful memories here.

Being a city in the north, winter comes quickly here! The parent's house is on the outskirts of the city, my luck as behind the house and all around it are hills and forests. Lakes and a river.

But before I get to my parents' house I took a walk through the city to remind me. Unfortunately, almost all the old houses have been demolished. There are just a few left, which I want to show here.

Instead of the old houses, blocks, shops and restaurants were built ... some even enjoyed watching and drinking coffee.

My favorites are the old, site-specific homes that I remember from my youth.

An important place in my memories is the church and the cemetery of the neighborhood where I went every Sunday with my grandmother. Now my grandmother is resting in this place.

Also, one of the most important Romanian sculptors, Ion Irimescu, was born in this city and wanted to be buried in the cemetery I am talking about.

The church is situated on top of a hill. Next to it was a monument to the Falticeni heroes in this neighborhood who died in the war. Also here is a building, an abandoned and damaged building. A very important building in my life ...

The building to which I refer is the former school where I learned my first two classes. This happened in the years 1961-1962. Now the building is a ruin. That doesn't prevent me from remembering those years and the teacher. Mrs. Stroiescu!

From old school to home of my mother, the childhood home, are only small country roads.

Beautiful and almost unchanged roads in the last fifty years. Only the houses have changed. Some. Some are new.

Slowly, slowly approach me to my mother's house.

Yes, this is the house. Here I grew up, here I lived the first 10 years of my life. The most beautiful years. I think we all agree that the first years of childhood are the most beautiful. without worry and trouble. These were on the shoulders of the parents.

In front of the house is the view. The view that was embedded in my memory.

House, the view remains, the parents ... less, unfortunately. My mother is seriously ill, this is the first reason I've come here now. I have nothing to do, I cannot change anything. Only soon will I have fewer reasons to visit these places.
Fortunately, my brother has children. The smallest can be a reason for future visits.

This is my story this Saturday. The story of my childhood through pictures of where I grew up. There are places left in my heart. I visit them increasingly rarely. Emotion is not the same since youth, but it still exists. This is life!

Cannot miss a song about the life of The Beatles!

Challenge name is Something About Me (SAM) with the tag: #sam-saturday.

bks6uris0t.jpg

This challenge I’m proposing is because I think we should get to know each other better. When we entered Steemit we made a first information post. That #introduceyourself. The problem is that for many of us months or years have passed since that post, and nobody can see it anymore.

This challenge could recall weekly who we are and from where we are from.

This can be done by telling in each post some personal information: the city and country where you live (if you can with more precision and more details than in the profile) and a few more about you, if you want. In a few sentences that can be used for each post in this challenge.

This is a suggestion, I know that many don’t want to give this information. In this case you can ignore this part.

At the same time, this challenge can provide a wealth of ideas and themes for posts. It's an open challenge, not focused on a single theme!

Something About Me... is about:

  • A recent happening that you think deserves to be told.
  • A past event, a memory that you want to share.
  • A hobby, a passion ... photography, walk, sport, music, cinema, gardening, flowers, animals, cooking, painting, travel, friends, family... It's your imagination to find many others.

Rules of the challenge

  • I think the best day to post in this challenge is Saturday.

  • Use the tag #sam-saturday on a post that you think it fits this challenge.

  • To comply with this general rule in all challenges, please indicate the name of the initiator, @bluemoon. It's not an obligation, just a request!

I intend to make every Monday a recapitulative post with all the posts in the challenge of the previous week. I will share the reward of this post with all the participants.

Excellent post and photos! I really enjoyed seeing your hometown, and it does look lovely - and now I know something more about You! I hope your mother's health improves!

Thank you for sharing and for starting this excellent theme. U+R :)

Thank you for the appreciations! Thanks for your good thoughts, thanks for participating in SAM!

I'm so sorry, Dan. I really hope your mom will feel better. Visiting the hometown for such a sad reason...well, it sucks. However, your nephew is really cute and he is definitely a good reason to visit Falticeni.
This is a great post and thank you for sharing with us your thoughts and feelings. I feel we are building more than a community, a family. And this is all thanks to you. 🙂

Thanks for your good thoughts! You're right, we're more than just a community ... it's nice to call it a family. Nobody says things so personal to anyone, just to those close to them. Of course it can be read by everybody but we know that we are talking first of all to the closest ones.

It was a real privilege to read of your childhood memories @bluemoon and you've given us a wonderfully real sense of location and history in this informative blog. And all that glorious snow adds fascinating and intruiging features for me as I don't get to experience it where I live.

I'm not generally one who lingers in cemetaries but I thought the snow created a soft, almost ethereal appearance to the cemetary and it looks very beautiful indeed.

It's wonderful that you are able to spend time with your mother and tell her how much you enjoyed your childhood, which had everything to do with your parents investment of love and time into your life as a child and has made you the person you are today. Thank you once again for sharing what you truly value with us. (U & R )

Thank you very much for your nice comment, @trudeehunter! I forgive the late answer, I was busy, you understand why. I'm glad you liked my presentation, it's a lot for me if I managed to present a little bit of the reality of where I live. I understand the pleasure of seeing the unusual winter white for you ... and I love the reddish orange sand in Australia (I've seen some remarkable movies ...).

Of course I don't mind a late reply @bluemoon It's such a busy time of the year and when you create wonderful posts like this it takes a lot of time to prepare.

I'd love to exchange some of our red dust for your white snow. The outback of Australia has a lot of appeal to many but that part of Australia just doent appeal to me. Everyone is different though, which makes life interesting. I'd rather spend time in our rainforests and beaches. It's an ideal day for swimming today, with high temps and humidity. It'll be a very hot Christmas this year.

I have to thank more.

My best wishes and prayers go out to you, your mother and your family! This post...I love. It reminds me of my own childhood in many ways and brings to mind a simpler, more peaceful time. I tried to recreate that feeling for my own children when they were young, and even then, the fast times were upon us. I deeply appreciate your sharing the home town!

Thank you very much! If you like this post it means we look like, we have the same nostalgia. For me the main nostalgia remains childhood ... as indeed many of us do, is not it?

I hope your mom will get better. It is so nostalgic, visisting your hometown with those memories from the careless childhood.

Thank you! I hope so. I always feel the same when visiting those places (about twice a year).

I loved visiting the place where your life began, although the reason for it makes me so sad. It is so hard to see our parents age and become ill. My heart breaks for you. Lean into those memories and pause for a moment or three.

Thank you for sharing these moments with us. God bless you and your family, Dan. @bluemoon.
