How safe are you - presenting the book, "Visual Intelligence Sharpen Your Perception"

in #safety6 years ago (edited)

How safe are you, well not everyone is and it is amazing the hazards I spot in a day. On occasion I refer to myself as Ms. Safety because I care.

I like to think of myself as a safe person and am always on the look out for dangers or unexpected situations.

Do you see it?

Most people would not even notice this. I did and thought someone might sit down and lean back into that nail. It is lower than it looks.

Does this look safe to you? In a coffee house I frequent, yes they hang art on the wall, but if someone doesn’t see the nail and slams their head back, well you know where I am going with this.

We all need to be more aware of our surroundings.

While reading the book, “Visual Intelligence Sharpen Your Perception. Change Your Life” by Amy E. Herman I came to realize observation is a huge part of training in law enforcement. Amy works with all types of law enforcement and emergency professionals and CEOs.

She writes about the things people over look due to being on their phone or zoned from the latest news, describes many situations where events were going down and how no one notices. Also if you see a crime can you describe what the person was wearing or distinguishing features?

She says details are important and often overlooked.

Amy E. Herman teaches the power of observation in her book and going beyond your beliefs to see what is really there. This is important in today’s fast paced world and events happening everyday. Being more alert as to your surroundings can save your life. Also in reporting what you see to help stop a crime it is important to have hewed observation skills and the ability to communicate what you see.

Start training yourself

When you enter somewhere look around. Look behind you. Pay attention.

I get feelings about people and I pay attention to them. It pays to have some intuition. In this post I am referencing just opening your eyes. Do you know where the exits are where you are at right now? Who is standing behind you?

In her book Amy uses art, such as famous paintings like Monet to train our perceptions to see what is really there and not to leave out what we do not see. Sometimes what is not there is also important.

I know my skills have improved from reading this book. It is a good read.

The trick is to see what matters. The book refers to training as a police officer and how in a split second decisions have to be made that could mean life and death.

Art and sculptures to increase the brain’s processing speed as exercises to see what you see and what you overlook.

We tune the world out around us due to habit, boredom, over stimulation.

What I personally see is everyone constantly entertaining themselves with their phone.

I drove up to a fast food place and a guy out front was asking for a specific order to be bought for him, approaching everyone on entering. When I said something to someone taking my order the first thing she asked is what he looked like.

Practicing these skills will improve your life, it has mine.

Here is goodreads take on the book: link

Very interesting! I understand that we intake much more visual information that our brains consciously process. It makes sense that some of the choices we have made through our life in training our brain might not be the right choices anymore. This seems like a good way to reevaluate and retrain our brains on what should be considered important.

Thank you for your efforts to create quality content!

Part of the reason why psychedelics are so invaluable to humanity. The amount of information we filter out constantly is vast compared to the minute details we do notice consciously.
I found perception to be greatly enhanced after having glimpsed an "unfiltered" world for a few hours.
It will also blast open the confines of subtext, make people perceptive of the minute energetic shifts in communication and interaction and will drastically enhance the trust in intuition-information to make better conscious decisions.

And while overcaution and even suspicion do not have to be the motivation for paying more attention to our surroundings I get the feeling that our lives would be much less messed up as societies if we each were not fooled so easily by the big league magicians of our age and their age-old tricks.

I can't lie - I get more paranoid too the older I get!

LOL

LOL ....
Awareness will save ya! haha!
You are right we must be careful not to become unduly paranoid.

If anything I'm more paranoid by not getting stuff stolen. Not that I've been robbed before - but growing up in NYC teaches you not to be a dumb ass!

Right, and everyone knows they can pawn photography equipment. That is your lively hood.

ha! howdy there rebeccabe! ya know I was just talking about this yesterday, how can anyone have situational awareness if they are constantly looking down at their phones?
It's a real gift to criminals unless they too are addicted to their phones!
Very good points, I hope people chose to be more attentive and study their surroundings.

I agree with it being a gift to the criminals. I never thought of it that way.
It really helps to remind ourselves to be more observant of our surroundings.

Exactly. Thanks for your comment .. :)

That's a ridiculously long nail for hanging a picture, and have they never heard of picture hooks before? It's an obvious accident waiting to happen, I'm surprised nobody had just pulled it out of the wall for the sake of safety.

I have to admit I'm the worst for being distracted by my phone while out and about, that's why I think they should deliberately make areas of the countryside have week phone signal - to force people to pay attention to their surroundings for a change!

That is why the signal is weak. Makes sense. Oh, I know that nail is long. LOL
I meant to say something about that nail. LOL
They finally took care of it.

interesting read and mostly bc most people these days, as studies have shown are in a fog of me-ism, cellphone, ipad, etc that they rarely notice much. ive been trained as a child to be aware but that was my dad teaching me, especially as a female to always be cautious in this world. thank you for pointing this out. you nailed it! baha get it ? :p

Good one @eaglespirit
Yes, women especially need to pay attention and we must never appear like a victim.
Look around and always check the car before getting in alone in the dark.

yup, thats what i meant about what my father taight me as a woman in my comment to you. lol

I was agreeing with you. Just saying some of the things I do. My dad never taught me since he was not around as I got older. :) Thanks for the follow up. When writing comments sometimes I write something and think I wonder if anyone will understand what I am trying to convey. I used to sleep with the light on.

yeah sometimes ppl sound argumentative or condescending or even like they didnt read your comment lol engagement (commenting) is art. lol

I spotted the nail in your first image straight away Rebecca. The mind reels as to the potential damage this could cause.

Great article. Yes, we all need to be so much more aware of our surroundings and what is happening around us. I don't do it consciously but I think something in me is always taking note of where the exit stairs are in buildings ~ But I'll take care to do this with more mindfulness from now on.

I heard of a girl, so absorbed in her phone, that she walked off the end of a pier ~ True story. Funny in some ways, but what a shock and wake-up call it must have been. ⚖️

I see people all the time walk across the street without looking up from their phones. That is insanity.

Sure is Rebecca. Sadly, people are being so dumbed down by all the technology that is supposed to better our lives. 5G will also bring so much more harm to everything living on our planet. While we can wear and use protective devices, bees and beetles can't.

Part of the insanity is that we have to use devices now to purify our water and air ~ And protect ourselves from EMFs etc.

So true. I have read about 5 G and it is not good. We must leave the cities to avoid it. You are right the bees and other living things will be exposed.

Only not everyone can leave the cities. Sometimes I think the only thing that is going to save all life on the planet is 'Divine intervention.' But for now, it's up to people who see the potential 'havoc' to do what they can to make others more aware of it. And there are good people doing that.

And when I personally feel powerless against the momentum that seems as if it can't be stopped ~ I always come back to: 'If it is to be, then it's up to me.'

You are a good person to be hooked up with- in today's society.
Crazy world lol
