Arsenal - Be A Gunner Be A Runner

Yes, I'm talking about the professional football club based in Islington, London, England, but don't worry, I'm not going to talk about football today. It's not my place to talk about football as I know nothing about it.

However, I'm going to talk about The Arsenal Foundation.

The Arsenal Foundation uses the power of football and the Arsenal name to inspire and support young people in north London and across the globe.
Just knowing Arsenal cares can be a huge source of motivation for individuals facing difficulties in their lives. source

I knew nothing about this foundation and a five years ago i saw a post on Facebook about a charity event, a community running to help sick children, organized by The Arsenal Foundation worldwide. It was right before my running competition and I thought it was a good chance to test myself and also to help the cause.

The Arsenal Foundation launched 'Be a Gunner. Be a Runner' event in 2009 and used to (maybe it still does) organize these community running worldwide. The entry fees that were very modest, were given as donation to children hospitals. This was a very good initiative as everyone was welcomed, regardless of age or fitness level. There was no timing, you could have your own pace and families with small children could take part too. This is the most important thing as it is a family event where children can understand the importance of running and healthy lifestyle.

I was lucky to have the event in my hometown. The local Arsenal football fans did a good job organizing the event. I was able to participate in two consecutive years and was great to see my town was the best, we had the most participants and were representing the country on the official website. Other, bigger countries had hundreds of participants in each city. I had a lot of fun because it was raining and I love running in the rain.

I can really appreciate these events and I'm happy to see these famous clubs are using their influence to do good things as the money goes to a good cause. Football or soccer for those who are not from Europe, is the number one sport and it would be a shame not to explore every possibility.
