Marvel's Black Panther (2018): My non-spoilery review
A traditional, black, superhero, sci-fi, political thriller. What a fantastic combination of genres!
This, combined with its fine characters and breathtaking setting, makes this movie the newest old thing on the block. Add in a great plot, and you get a movie that has gotten the whole world raving.
It's not an easy task to create real, understandable, relatable characters in a movie with so many fantastical elements, but Black Panther does so beautifully. Each character's motives are perfectly clear. Even Shuri, T'Challa's genius sister, whose young age made her the perfect comic relief of the movie had a lot of depth. It's no wonder the villain is being acclaimed as one of the best of the MCU, and everyone wants to see him return. Credit to the cast for their awesome portrayals of the characters. They really did bring the movie to life. And credit to the writers for their use of many strong women characters without seeming at all feminist or sexist.

For a movie about an African country, Black Panther is surprisingly diverse, making it a great fit for the MCU. Apart from the varied setting, this can be seen in the characters themselves. You have T'Challa and the other Wakandans in Africa, Everett Ross, a typical white Government agent, Black American gangster types, white criminals, and Asians, and the setting to go with each. And there was even a visit to another African country! That's diversity and depth.
The effects were something else. The trailers weren't kidding when they said Wakanda is super advanced. I can't count the number of times I went 'Oh!' at the special effects of the movie. All hail Shuri!
Plus the plot is very fast paced. Yes, there were a few times it had to draw back a bit, especially in the beginning. However, it lived up, and that was great.
This is one movie people aren't going to forget in a while.
