Youtube has just released a new series called 'Origin', which they've fully produced themselves for Youtube Premium. The first two episodes are available to watch for free, while you need a Youtube Premium subscription (€11.99) to watch the remainder of the first season.

Origin is a science-fiction drama made by the producers of The Crown and Lost. It follows a group of people aboard a space ship that's travelling to a distant planet. During this journey they encounter a slew of problems which affect the lives of everybody on board of the spaceship.

Worth Watching or Not?

I've finished the entire first season, because I already had a subscription to Youtube Premium. I have to say that I've thoroughly enjoyed watching every episode. I'm a really big fan of almost anything science-fiction related, so this series was right up my alley.

I'm not saying that you should just get a Youtube Premium membership, just to be able to watch this series. I don't think this series alone is worth the €11.99, but the other perks you receive do make it something to think about.

Some of the story lacked a little bit of depth towards the end, but this was certainly mitigated due to the great cast. You might recognize Tom Felton (Malfoy in Harry Potter) and Natalia Tena (Tonks in Harry Potter), which both were excellent in their roles.

I definitely didn't feel like I've wasted my time watching this, it kept me very entertained up until the last episode. If you enjoy science-fiction, you might really enjoy Origin too.

Quality Production

I was pleasantly surprised at the high production values. I know that everyone's very eager to bash on Youtube when they do something wrong, they do a lot of things wrong, but releasing this series isn't one of those things.

If they're going to add more series like this one to the Youtube Premium package, then I think they might finally be able to compete with other streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. That's still a long ways away though...

Have you watched this series already? What are your favourite TV-Shows? Let me know in the comments below!

Interesting, I might just have to give this a little look. I just got the Prime membership, so now I get those videos, I'm not sure if I want to sign up for another subscription service that I don't make too much use of, but I will check out the quality of the offerings if they are free!

I wouldn't say that it's worth it, if you don't generally watch a lot of Youtube. There's nothing in terms of real series and movies, just Youtube exclusive content mostly and an ad-free experience.

Well.... the ads have started to get pretty annoying, and that is what tipped me over into getting a Spotify subscription! Although, that said, I tend to watch very little YouTube anyway... so probably not yet worth it.

It's interesting - I stopped watching TV in 2012 because I was too busy running my business to watch it, and there was a big price increase in the subscription package. I intended to watch my favourite programmes on Catch-up, but instead I discovered YouTube and just lost interest in TV. The weird thing about me is that I rarely read or watch fiction - unless it's classic novels or costume dramas. I've no idea why that is. I read loads of non-fiction and I watch loads of non-fiction YouTubes. I think the last TV drama I watched was Lost. I kept thinking "What's the point of this? It's nonsense!" And I wasn't interested in the characters. So I won't be subscribing to YouTube Prime.
Actually now I remember I did read all the Harry Potter books, because my neice and nephew and the whole extended family were reading them and I didn't want to be left out. I loved them! Then I watched one of the films, and I can hardly even remember it! Same with Lord of the Rings. It's weird.

Sounds really cool. I might have to give it a look. I don't have a Youtube premium subscription though. What are the things about Youtube premium that draw you to it? I'd be interested to know.
