Why Atari Is #1

in #retrogaming8 years ago

The Atari 2600 was the first video game system I owned and probably my favorite still (if you don't count the Commodore 64). It was released all the way back in 1978 but was still going strong when this ad came out in 1982. The Atari 2600 pictured above looks just like the one I got for Christmas in 1983. Older models had six switches on the front instead of four and newer models were all black (no wood grain).

Despite the so-called video game crash of 1982/3, the Atari 2600 was produced until 1992 and sold 40 million units worldwide. It has also been revived in the various Atari Flashback units that have been released over the last several years. As far as North America is concerned, no other console can claim the success and longevity of the Atari 2600 except for the original Nintendo Entertainment System which ultimately outsold it by about 10%.

Sort:

I brought down my Atari 2600 which was a hand me down from my cousin. Seems to work, but the connectors for the controls on the console need some repair...can't move up or right.

I think there are contact pads that can be re-soldered but it might be easier just to find some new ones. They aren't difficult to find. The Atari 2600, Atari 8-bit computers, Commodore 64 and others used the same type of joysticks so there are lot of them out there.

I think the problem is with the connector in the console, I have four joysticks and they all do the same thing...if I place pressure pushing the connector up, then I can more around more

Yeah, your probably right if you are having the same problem with multiple joysticks. I've never had that particular problem but it probably isn't too hard to fix. It may take soldering skills though.
