Shadowrun for Sega Genesis - Retro Memories
Shadowrun was/is one of those little known masterpieces of retro gaming. Released for Sega Genesis in 1994, Shadowrun was an isometric view, open-world style, cyberpunk adventure RPG game, and it was awesome.
The storyline takes place in 2050 Seattle, and is based on the gritty cyberpunk IP of the Shadowrun tabletop game. Joshua, the single playable character, is searching for clues into the mystery of his brother's recent murder as well as vengeance against the corrupt mega-corporation overlords.
Shadowrunners are mercenaries, and in that spirit most of the game is centered around grinding through shadow-runs. These are randomly generated and can range from delivering packages to assassinations. Money (Nuyen) acquired from completing runs is used to buy better weapons/armor, cybernetic enhancements, new magic spells and to hire other Shadowrunners for your party.
The open style of game progression was pretty revolutionary for it's time. Players are free to explore areas for clues, quests, loot, etc. New areas are unlocked through quest progression and/or accumulation of enough Nuyen to hire transport. Looking back, I can clearly see how the play style of this game has influenced the development of top modern titles.

I loved this game for Genesis! Not so much on SNES. I even played a couple tabletop games of Shadow Run they are awesome as well.
I have always wondered what the original tabletop game would be like for Shadowrun, and Mech Warrior.
I thought the PC ones were the first Shadowrun games, didn't know it had "origins" way back to sega times.
I am glad they new ones are doing well, I really like the atmosphere of these games.
Actually I haven't play them myself. They seemed like a series I'd like but I didn't want to add another one to my already big backlog.
The music is also pretty good thanks for the reminder about this almost forgotten classic!
