And the Lord God caused a deep to fall upon Adam, and he slept : and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her into the man.

And Adam said, this is the bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: end they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and we're not ashamed.

Five-Fold Pattern

Leaving and Cleaving

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

There are four ways of Cleaving :

(a) Physical (location) .

(b) Economic/financial.

(c)Influence, direction, counsel of parents and other members of the extended family.

(d) Close friends, especially of the opposite sex.

Companionship
(Man was alone without a friend)

And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make an him an help meet for him.

            Genesis 2:18

Openness
(let your spouse know all about you to avoid surprises, mistrust and suspicion.)

And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

    Genesis 2:21-23

There are for ways to be naked/open/transparent :

(a) Historically e. g past relationships, children.

(b) Financially e. g debts, income, assets, obligations.

(c) Physically e. g naked at home, sexual liberty.

(c) Spiritually e. g aspirations in future, personal sins.

Sex and reproduction

God's plan is for sex and reproduction within the context of marriage. Sex and reproduction outside the context of marriage leads to all kinds of problems - step homes, stepchildren, and sexually transmitted diseases.

And God said, let us make man in our jmage, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over fish of the sea, and fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, so God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
