Due to its very high nutritional value, the ackee with salted cod (saltfish) is the typical Jamaican dish and is traditionally consumed for breakfast, although its versatility is such that it lends itself to many different preparations. This is a very informative post. Thanks for sharing.

Many years ago, I used to work in a fish processing plant where we salted mackerel. We sold that salted mackerel to the Caribbeans. I wonder if some of it was consumed with this fruit. :-)

Thank you for your comment, my friend, it is likely that the fish in your work has been accompanied with this fruit. It is traditional in Caribbean foods, although it is of African origin spread throughout the Caribbean hugs.

Great post Maria!
Resteemed.
I love the akee, i ate it every second day in Jamaica :)
Jamaicans told me back then about the toxic part, and
that you should be careful also harvesting it.
So the toxic part is the black core/Seed..?
And you simply cut it out? Or how is it done the right way?
Greetings ;)
Luca

Firstly , let the fruit open naturally. Don’t cut it open like other fruits.

  1. Secondly , there are little pink things in the fruit. Remove them.

  2. Wash and boil the ackee.

  3. From there you are good to go- season to Taste, cut up your onions and other spices - add whatever you want. I prefer chicken to saltfish .

Give thanx for the answer ;)
But you cut that black seed/core out, before you boil it, right?
I prefer the #vegan way, like Chronixx sings...
"Don't give me akee and saltfish, gimmi akee and garlic.." :)

Yes indeed- do remove the seed. Ital a ackee is vital and delicious once you spice it right.

Ok cool, give thanx, mi bredda ;)
Yes...Ital is vital :)

If the traditional way of preparing it is parboiled and is accompanied with salted fish that delight ...@missaj

hello @luca 1777 greetings God bless you, he ackee is edible when ripe, being a great source of nutrients, when green is toxic and poisonous
that is, this fruit can only be consumed when it is ripe. How do you know when it reaches maturity? You just have to observe that in its back it was detected or cracks that reveal its seeds.

Posted via ReggaeSteem | Reggae Culture Rewarded

Thank you! Be blessed, too, Beautiful.
Ok, i get it... so the fruit turns from green to yellow to red color, maturing, right?
Maybe even wait 'till it opens itself maturing like @missaj wrote...
"Firstly , let the fruit open naturally."
