Meatballs and Gravy Recipe

Let's eat some good ragout, it's Canadian cuisine.

See at the end for a French translation and to hear a song about it.


The Ingredients:

-a family pack of lean ground beef and pork mix (approx. 1.5 g)

-a pouch of ragout sauce mix (50 g)

-cinnamon

-pepper

-clove

Preparation:

The first step is to sprinkle cinnamon, pepper and clove on the meat.

Doing our best to equally spread the seasoning among the unwrapped pack of meat, next we want to take chunks out of the pile and roll them into small meatballs.

Then we want to lightly fry these balls in a pan.

We only want them to be cooked on the surface.

At the same time as we keep an eye on these so they don't get overcooked, we can prepare the gravy.

Just follow the instructions of your favorite brand of sauce. In my case, it was to mix the powder with some water, bring to a boil, stir constantly, reduce heat, simmer, and stir from time to time.

Finally we want to put together in a larger cauldron the meatballs and the sauce ​so that we can put the mix in the oven at 375°F for about 30 to 45 minutes.

Once it's ready, you can eat it with any vegetables and/or condiments you wish. For me, it was creamed corn.

The volume of the batch made, allows for preserving part of it for a couple of additional meals.

I've never heard of Ragout before? It looks delicious and I'm starving right now lol. I wish I could try it. I'm not sure where I can get the ragout sauce mix?

A ragout can be a stew of meat. I used a pouch of St-Hubert, but I know there is also the French's brand that can be found here, in Montreal, at Dollarama for a cheaper price. Don't know if all of these are available in New Brunswick.

I'm going to search for it next time I'm at the grocery store. I'll let you know if I find it. I want to try it.
