Our Teen Who Dies If He Falls Asleep | Living Differently

Liam Derbyshire suffers from a rare situation that will kill him if he falls asleep. Doctors believe he wouldn’t survive 6 weeks after birth. This rare condition affects less than 1,500 people worldwide and they rarely survive it. This sickness means if he falls asleep, he won’t be able to breathe and he would die. So Liam is always placed on a machine that will enable him breath while sleeping and without that machine, he won’t be alive.
Congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS) affects Liam’s central and autonomic nervous system.
This controls functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing, and can improve the risk of organ damage, most especially to the brain.
Every night, Liam depends on a ventilator to keep him breathing when he is asleep, and hands are put In place to watch over him at all times.
He has an electric bed, hydrogen and oxygen. Liam’s loves toys, and he has a lot of them at his sick bed.
He can build mini automobiles which works perfectly well. Liam’s is 17 years now and has survived past the 6 weeks predicted by the doctors.
