BEAUTIFUL FINLAND

in #qurator5 years ago

This post is my official entry to this week’s @qurator’s Photo Friday | Photography Competition #84

In-between my graduation from the business school in Sweden and my move to Estonia for a new job I spent two weeks in Finland at my friends’ place outside of Helsinki. I was still looking for jobs and doing interviews, but also just relaxing, going on walks in nature with a friend, meeting my other friends for brunch and hanging out on a beach, cycling, working out in a gym, and hiking in a national park with a friend and swimming in lakes.

Today I want to share with you some of my photos of the beautiful Finnish nature from those days:

Tack, Johan! Det hade varit en härlig semester i grannlandet, innan mitt nya vuxna liv började igen. ;)

Wow and Wow!!

You should give up your day job and open a VIP Finnish Tour business. Your shots are so crisp and really make me want to go there!!

Especially liked the little steam running through the woods.

Enjoyed & Finland added to my "wanna go" list thanks to you. 🌿💚

Suggesting you add your post to @steemitworldmap for extra curation support.

Thank you for your kind words, Marike! Finland is definitely worth visiting – any time of year! The nature there is truly breathtaking. Haha, if I were to open a tour business there, I would need to move there myself! :D For now I’m feeling happy here in Estonia, it’s close enough to Finland (two hours boat ride) and nature is very similar. I haven’t gone on any hiking expeditions here yet, but I hope that an opportunity will present itself soon enough.

Thank you for stopping by! <3

Estonia intrigues. 😊 But cold in the winter no? Im based in Northern Thailand where 25C is deep winter. 🤣

ehy dear @oleg326756, I love all the Nordic countries and Finland is no exception !! I visited this beautiful country with a couple of friends (he is a landlady, she is Italian) and we went camping between lakes and cottages for a day. we swam in the cold and silent lakes and cooked fresh fish in the huts used to eat in the woods. it was a wonderful experience !! so thank you for bringing your photos here :-))

Beautiful pictures indeed.
When I think of Finland I think about umbearable winter forests or the imposing architecture of Helsinki.
These images provide a different idea, a pastoral one. So warm and welcoming.
I loved the 2nd and 3rd pictures.
One personal question: why did you move to Estonia to work? Hard to find a job in Finland? I don't know much about Estonia either (looking forward to posts from there)

Thank you for your feedback, Henrry, and for your question.

It was nearly impossible to find a job in Sweden (where I am from). Being an immigrant, with a non-Swedish sounding last name, closed most of the career opportunities for me in Sweden. It didn’t matter that I graduated on top of my class, that it was my second master degree, that I speak and write perfect Swedish, or that I worked for the Swedish government in the past. They see my name on the CV and send it into a paper bin without reading. Estonia was much more welcoming and easier to find a job, work lot less prejudice and discrimination. And it’s a more fun and dynamic place to live in, to be honest. Kind of like Silicon Valley of Northern Europe. Sweden has been going backwards for a while now, both politically, socially and culturally. At least Estonia is still moving forward, inventing a better version of itself every single day.

Wow. I did not know it was this complex. It's an eye-opener for me. Thanks for the details.
Best of luck in Estonia.

Wow, that was fantastic to read!! Thank you so much, @curie! Have been a big fan of your project since the early days of Steem.

This is amazing. Beautiful photos. Need to add this to my list of places i want to visit.

I never knew Finland was such a beautiful country. I have a friend who was born in Finland but then his family moved to Canada, where he's lived practically all his life. I'm going to send him the link to your post so he can see the beauty of his homeland!

Lovely photos Oleg! I totally missed that you have graduated already and that you moved to Estonia! Congratulations on your achievements! I hope that you're enjoying your new job and that you're happy in your new country :)
