Geographic Communities, Meetups & Regional Leaders - the right ingredients for marketing Steem?

in #promo-steem5 years ago

One of the prospects I find most exciting about the new Communities on Steem is their potential for building geographical presence.

By this I mean Communities focusing on a particular country, region, state or even better city or town.

While geographically in most parts of the world Steemians are still spread pretty thinly Geographically Identified Communities (GICs as I will name them) offer massive potential for onboarding and even better retention.

Communities generally can fill 'the gap' in Steem's offering by providing more targeted content.

GICs take that one step further - everyone lives somewhere!

GICs offer instant association, and can, if content is managed well, offer instantly USEFUL information.

It could be reviews of local restaurants, articles about local history, details of council services, manifestos of local politicians, appeals from local charities, information about upcoming events, local job adverts...

The list is endless.

And it will all be information that people want, need and find useful at a local level.

A reason to join Steem & a reason to stay on Steem

If GICs provide localised, useful information people will see a reason to join Steem, and even better a reason to contribute to Steem, and potentially even invest in buying STEEM to help build their presence.

And what about local businesses? A GIC presents a strong reason for them to get involved to reach out to local people and promote their products and services.

This could be a golden opportunity for projects like @zekepickleman's @town-crier local business promotion service, and even for companies like @carolinahempco that already have a presence on Steem.

Steem Towns

Many moons ago, early on in my journey here, I wrote about the concept of Steem Towns...

We didn't have the toolset then to move the idea forward - now we do.

Looking back at these old posts, I see @starkerz and @mariannewest both commented favourably on the idea at the time - and they are both still around.

Matt, Marianne - do you think the time might be right to move this idea forward now?

GICs - a launchpad for local marketing?

GICs could also be great launch pads for locally targeted marketing efforts.

They could hook up with a growing network of meetups and events around the work to promote their Communities and Steem...

And even secure some funding from @fundition's new support program...

This could also be a good time to revisit, review and rebirth my idea of a few months back for Regional Leaders...

@chrisrice, @paulag, @jaynie, @zekepickleman and @mattclarke were among those that expressed interest in becoming Regional Leaders. I know @jaynie and @mattclarke have already set up GIC's - do you see potential in bringing all these elements together?

Geographically Identified Communities already set up

I have just trawled through most of the existing Hive Communities and found almost 30 so far that are based around particular countries, regions, cities etc.

This post is rather too long to include the list, so I will post that separately.

In the meantime if you are involved in a GIC do add details in the comments below in case I've missed it.

If you are thinking of setting up a GIC do let me know, I may be able to help in various ways.

All thoughts, comments, suggestions on these ideas welcome.

Thank you.

When I started telling people about Steem I'd always be asked the same 3 questions:

Where can I buy STEEM?
How can I sell it for fiat?
Where can I learn more?

I realised a regular, local physical meetup, with beer and hugs; was the answer to all 3.

After more than 2 years of meeting once a month; I can confirm its absolutely how we win.

We started the same method in August of 2019 and have been meeting once a week since then @mattclarke.

@steem-ph also published a How-to article on:

That's really useful to know, thank you.

That would really be wonderful to have that arrangements. You had created a campaign sometimes last year. What happened we heard it no more?

That was a great marketing meeting indeed this weekend. I was inspired when I thought of how the mentorship, networking and organic promotion engine could translate into an organic but wider reaching marketing plan.

I will have to admit I am a little behind on the communities thing and have barely had the ability to keep up with content creation as things settle out.

I have documented dozens of restaurants and breweries, businesses and blog stories based on my geographic location. Anyone could do this and it would be great to invite others to join me.

Lemme get my head around it and let me know what you find out that can translate into things I can do!
