How to become a quant developer
I had to look at how to become a quant developer for some one close.I thought it would be very useful information for a lot of people.
Why Quant Developer
These jobs pay really really well.As a matter of fact, i know HFT programmer making north of 500K USD per annum. So obviously lot of talent is attracted towards this.
Lot of the folks have Phd background and from top schools. but regular folks also can get into this
Quant Developer/Software Developer
There are math guys doing the pure quant but still in languages like R and matlab
Banks usually use C#,Java,C++.. Trading firms use a combination of C++/Python/R/Mathlab
Bank Developer Role
This is not as complicated and relatively easy to get in for a good developer.Its typical programming skills that are required,c++,Java,Database,Web and so on
Developers jobs in Trading,High Frequency Trading and Algorithm trading
Here usually Phds/math guys device and test out trading algortihm using Mathlab/R and as such.Algo developers convert them to c++/python and also collect market feeds. The key in HFT would be optmization to knock out even micro seconds.Winner is determined by this speed race.
New addition to this whole equation is AI&Big data
Additional skill sets
You do need to know Algorthms, data structures, scientific computing techniques and High Performace computing like CUDA programing for GPU (This is used extensively in bit coin mining)
