Bird’s Healthy Fall Favorites! | Criss-Cross and Pear-Applesauce!
Blame it on the Applesauce my sweet foodie friends!
Happy Tuesday my friends! This is going to be a very exciting few weeks in the Bird nest! Family will begin arriving this week! Yes, that includes the little one too. Needless to say, we’re over the moon about it!
I have so much to do, so many healthy treats to prepare before they arrive. This morning I planned to make and freeze cookies but when I realized I didn’t have any applesauce on hand, cookies were on hold! I knew I could make applesauce… one thing led to another and it hit me, I should make applesauce for my grandson! He loves fruit, this will be perfect! Nothing better than fresh chunky applesauce!
With plans to make cookies put aside…
apples were gathered and then I realized I also had ripe pears on hand! Using more than one variety always makes applesauce more flavorful and adding a pear, well…
What could be better than applesauce but pear- applesauce!
Applesauce and apple butter…
were two Bird family all-time favorites. I used to buy bushels of apples just to preserve both during the fall. Sharing both with friends during the holiday was a favorite tradition in the Bird nest. Thinking about those holiday baskets made me smile as I quickly chopped my Granny Smith and Red Delicious Apples and not to forget, my sweet Pear! I always try to buy organic fruit, they’re not always pretty but at least I know they’re healthier!Simmering on low…
with a dash of water and a shake or two of cinnamon is all it takes. Tasty and healthy doesn’t always have to be complicated you know? Stirring occasionally; the smell of apples and fresh cinnamon soon permeated the air, I knew the applesauce was just about ready. Chunky applesauce is the best!
Topped with chopped walnuts and dried cranberries, Voila!
I guess I’ll need to practice a little bit of Criss-Cross Applesauce before they arrive! Ring a bell?

I had to chuckle, if I hadn’t planned to make those cookies I wouldn’t have needed applesauce! But hey, that’s how it goes in the Bird nest. My plan is to have lots healthy treats on hand for all of the hungry Birds both large and small A couple of jars on hand should be just enough for the family this visit. Chocolate cookies and protein bars are next on the agenda, perhaps tomorrow! Remember, next time you need applesauce don’t buy it at the market. Make it yourself, you’ll be so glad you did.

It is one of the first things I learned to make when I was a kid! Apple sauce and Apple Crisp.
And adding the pear just sounds even yummier! I do love the added touch of dried cranberries on top!! Thank you! I never realized that I was such a boring cook!!! LOL

I know, it's so easy to make, why would you ever buy it right? It was fun to share, I always try to remember many people do not cook at all....I hope to share just a few tips :) I am sure you are farrrr from being boring my sweet friend!
Apples really are a really fun autumn treat, aren't they? And your presentation reminds me so much of a family gathering around Thanksgiving. Really nice. Hope you have a great time with the family!
