The Sane Persons Guide to Politics:

Todays politics are devise more so then ever before. With media and politician trust at an all time low it now seems impossible to find good sources of information that actually tell the facts. The following sources will hopefully give you some insight into todays politics, the economy and elsewhere. People/shows will be tagged with a rough political orientation, and whether or not they need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Podcasts:

Funny enough some podcasts provide great insight into the news, finance etc because they are hard to monetize. As a result there are a number of good podcasts you can turn to for information.

No Agenda

Leaning: centre-right

What happens when you combine satellite talk radio and politics, you get No Agenda. No Agenda is a twice a week podcast about current events, politics, tech etc. The two hosts Adam and John deconstruct the goings on in the world for about three hours per show. The hosts often tackle issues the media deals with, and ones that do not cover. Playing clips from the media and other outlets and commentating on them. Where the show may turn some people off is it may sound conspiratorial at times. This due to the connections the hosts make between some events and organizations. However this is a minor complaint. The No Agenda show is a well researched show possibly the only political podcast you need.

Freakonomics:

Leaning: Left of centre - grain of salt

The Freakonomics podcast which is based on the books of the same name, is a weekly podcast dedicated to talking about economic issues. From learning to poverty the show provides an economics perspective behind these issues. This podcast however generally does not cover current events due to it’s weekly nature opting for more general issues. The show generally advocates for a Keynesian school of economics of more intervention. The book & show has also been knocked by several academics for accuracy. So as always do your own research.

Youtube is still one of the largest platforms for hosting videos. As a result this has attracted top tier new talent in the news and information space, here are a few:

Philip DeFranco

Leaning: centre-left

I believe Philip DeFranco needs no introduction, however if you live under a rock I will explain. Philip DeFranco hosts a daily news show (minus weekends for now) about the major topics of the day. He will share both sides of the issue doing research and then he will share his opinion. While his views sometimes bleed into stories and how they are portrayed, this is often not the case. Giving each issue and side a fair shake. As a result he has become one of the more trusted names people go to for the news.

Colin’s last stand

Leaning: centre-right - classical liberal/libertarian

Colin Moriarty currently hosts a twice a week show covering history and politics. (Generally one for history and one for politics) A show started by a man who was disenfranchised by the republican party (2016) but who searches for a middle path in a partisan system. Colin’s love of politics and history is apparent to anyone who watches the show often diving into the nuances of issues and history. If you enjoy John Oliver's style of videos you likely will enjoy Colin’s Last Stand.

The Rubin Report

Leaning: centre-left - classical liberal

Every week Dave Rubin sits down with a guest to talk about anything politics, religion, the media and more. This interview style show covers mostly salient issues and ideologies that drive the current topics covered by the news. Dave offers a relaxed interview style that allows his guests to speak while the audience can come to their own conclusions about the topic and the person.

Tim Pool

Leaning: neutral - classical liberal

Tim is likely the future of journalism. I mean that sincerely, as Tim ventures into protests and interviews people often live with no, to minimal editing. This allows for full transparency as the viewer decides what to think of the situation. Tim tried to remain objective as possible by showing rather then telling.

Carl Benjamin better known as Sargon of Akkad provides commentary on the news and politics. He specializes in culture and ideology. He has also done several well laid out pieces, the war in Syria being one of them. Sargon covers the news and current events. He also hosts a weekly show called "This Week in Stupid" where he covers outrageous goings on in the world.

Scott Adam’s the creator of Dilbert branched into writing about current affairs recently. Writing with the view based on persuasion. Scott provides an interesting and unique perspective on the issues he talks about. Although reading or watching is sometimes a difficult task as Adam’s is a mirror who can reflect your own viewpoint. Scott add’s caveats to almost anything he says and does not take partisan sides. What may upset some is he is a proponent that Donald Trump is a Master Persuader. While you may think he is a Trump supporter, he can be more defined as a President supporter. (Whoever holds the office.) Your views will be challenged if you watch or read Adam’s however it will be for your benefit.

Mike Cernovich

Leaning: centre-right - Grain of Salt required.

It may surprise some that Mike Cernovich a right wing journalist and provocateur is on this list. However his journalism regardless of his political stance is accurate. Mike does two things report the news in written form and in video form commentate on the events. Being a lawyer Mike has the analytical skills to deconstruct the news. However the conclusions he draws as a result of this journalism however need to be taken with a grain of salt. He tempers his bias by saying frequently that viewers should think for themselves and fact check him.

Micheal Tracy who currently works for The Young Turks (TYT) is a journalist who I respect. He is willing to take a look at issues from a non partisan stance. While he may It should be noted that his views are often on TYT which is a highly partisan channel.

Ah the infamous Wikileaks. Wikileaks has never issued a retraction on the information they have released, as a result this makes them credible in my eyes. However being they release secret and private government documents they can’t really be verified by the average person. When the media covers what they release, do yourself a favour and go read the source material.

Russia Today (RT)

Leaning Pro Russian - Grain of salt needed - American/Western Coverage Only

RT is generally known as the propaganda outlet of the Russian Government, much like Aljazeera for the Saudis. While that is true with covering Russia; they have surprisingly accurate coverage of the United States. As a result they can still remain somewhat credible in the eyes of the mainstream while propagating for the Russian government.
