NY Farmer Left In Shock After Agents Stormed His Farm Without A Warrant

in #politics6 years ago (edited)

John Collins owns a dairy farm in Rome, New York and recently he had several immigration agents come onto his property (at least 7 of them) to detain and haul away one of his farm workers.

Collins said that he had heard yelling going on in the milk house on his property and that when he had gone over there to see what was going on, he saw agents assaulting one of his farm workers. That man in question, Marcial de Leon Aguilar, was said to be pinned up against a window. And when Collins had asked them for identification or a warrant, they didn't respond by showing him any.

Although, he alleges that they did tell him that they were there with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

When they couldn't provide him with any paperwork, Collins allegedly asked them to vacate his property.

He told them that they could come back and search anything that they wanted, he just wanted to see the appropriate paperwork beforehand.

Collins alleges that after they refused, and continued to harass Aguilar, that he had tried to take out his phone to record the incident and that is when agents allegedly knocked his phone away from him. And they then proceeded to take Aguilar away. They also allegedly handcuffed Collins and threatened him that he was interfering with their investigation, before deciding to take off the cuffs and let him go.

"I couldn't believe how unprofessional...the whole situation was" says Collins

According to Collins, Aguilar has been working for him for almost a year now, and that he has been living in a home on his farm property with his wife and children. According to Collins, his wife had been meeting with immigration officers recently and was attempting to seek asylum for her family due to the violence in their home country of Guatemala.

Collins says that this isn't the America that he is familiar with, that this is the sort of behavior you see on the TV, he says, and not something that you would expect to see in his own community.

Immigration officers are required to provide a warrant and so Collins is less than impressed that they stormed onto his property without first obtaining appropriate permission from him, or showing him any warrant indicating that they had the authority to do so. Collins insists that Aguilar and his wife had been attempting to work within the system to get the appropriate paperwork filled out, to seek asylum etc, and then this whole ugly incident took place despite their efforts.

These crazy order followers are out of control, how much longer will the humans in New York suffer the abuses of this goon squad without taking any action to protect their inalienable human rights?

it is incredible the little respect that organisms have for people, now in any state or country of the world there are reports of abuses provided by agency agents. Another embarrassing fact.
Thank you very much dear friend @doitvoluntarily for keeping us informed
I wish you a prosperous week

It seems there is no longer any standard of behaviour for public officials. I'm certain I remember a time when there was an expectation that public servants would behave as the job title implies. Now it seems that they are the masters.

What a shame when others take advantage of their positions and lose all sense of respect for their fellow humans.

What we allow, will continue.

This farm is about 30 min drive from my house. The peace and justice counsel out of Syracuse, Ny has been dealing with this exact sort of thing for the past 1.5 years. Immigrants (specifically those working on ny farms) are being pursued like crazy. It's a pretty fucked situation too because it puts the farmers in a precarious position because dairy work is the sort that not many of the locals want to do and the farmers need the immigrants to keep the ops running.

What if Collins didn't believe that they were agents? Anyone can just walk in and say "I'm an agent from so-and-so. I dont need to show you my ID." By then, Collins could only assume that the 'agents' were robbers, or even hitmen going after Aguilar. Had the situation escalated to Collins attacking the 'agents' in order to protect Aguilar then things could've ended worst.... This whole situation is messed up

you're right and apparently he didn't, he said there was no indication on their clothing that they were ICE

I think it goes without saying, but NAP = violated

I would argue the whole point of their "authority" and the point of the warrant.

not surprising but absolutely horrendous. shows the true "when the gloves come off" in this country. total bullshit. i hope these people get exposed... people need asylum and the political ideas about immigrants are archaic here.
