-- COMPLETED -- [Poker] What Am I Holding? #3 (aka "Guess My Hand")

in #poker8 years ago (edited)

This is going to be a tough one!

I seriously doubt anyone can put me on the correct hand this time.

For that reason, this time the post is taking a 50/50 payout and the liquid rewards will split ...

  • 70% Liquid Rewards (1.243 SD, 3.547 STEEM) + 2.50 SBD for correctly identifying the Rank of the two cards the HERO is holding.

  • 30% Liquid Rewards (1.243 SD, 3.547 STEEM) + 1.337 SBD for correctly identifying the Rank of the two cards the VILLAIN is holding.

EDIT : Forgot to add, any Liquid Rewards not won in this round will roll over into the next reward pool. If noone ever guesses any of the games correctly again, all non-rewarded Liquid Rewards will be donated to a Steem/Steemit related project(s) of our choice.

Disclaimer : Any STEEM POWER earned will be used for whatever we want. Maybe we'll donate it to some Steem project, maybe we'll give it to someone's retirement fund, maybe we'll buy a beer, maybe we'll give it for a birthday gift or spend it on a new keyboard. Who knows. Search our wallet history to see all the nefarious things we spend STEEM/SBD on.

Notes:

  • Disregard the percentages shown in the images below.
  • I will not be giving any hints at all this time.
  • I will give my reaction thoughts during the hand underneath some images.

PreFlop

"Yes, I get to isolate LAGdonk and he has position, so LAGdonk2!"

"Who could have seen that coming? lulz"

"I'm calling his 2/3rd pot CBet on the flop no matter what."

Flop

Turn

"Uhg. This board is really starting to favor LAGdonk."

"I sense weakness in your 2/3rd bet button LAGdonk world!"

River

"F@ck! I may have misplayed this ... FUD, you're a genius! Check call this LAGdonk!"

Dafuq?

"Here, I'll be nice and allow you the opportunity to fold so no one see's that crap you're holding."

"OH SHIT!!!! YOU CALLED!!! YES I KNOW IT'S ONLY 3.2BB BUT YOU KNOW YOU'RE BEAT, RIGHT???!!! OH F@CK WHAT DID I JUST STEP INTO?!"

Let the games begin!

Sort:

I think it's time for a hint.

This is such a shot in the dark, but the last two with hints were answered so quickly I figured I would give you guys a shot blind first.

OK so here's a little help.

  • AFAIK, there is only one possibility when it comes to the stakes of this game. Knowing the stakes can help you somewhat in determining the range of hands for the players and the actions they'd be willing to take and who knows what else.

  • @spark @sigmajin @meesterboom @pfunk @richq11 are all somewhere in the ballpark. Someone may have a card correct. Someone may have the wrong player with a card.

  • There was a bonus hint left in #general on Steem Chat concerning me playing poker. I don't know how helpful that will be, other than maybe combining that info with the first hint to assist in determining the stakes ... in case your eyes were not discerning enough (psssst look at the blinds). ;)

  • Feel free to guess again!

I've already edited the post a few times, so I'll post this in the comments.

You can guess more than once, however ...

  • You must wait until after I have stated that there were no correct guesses after 24 hours. Once I have announced that there are no winners, everyone can guess again if they choose to.

  • If after 72 hours there are no winners, I will reveal the cards and roll over the rewards into the next WAIH.

Please keep your 2nd and 3rd guess as replies to your original guess. Thanks!

one thing that would be helpful is stakes (at least a general idea). For example v would be pretty typical of how a lagfish in microstakes just bets a strong ace high, but would never happen outside of micro (maybe not even thre any more)

"No hints".

Everything anyone needs to know is there for the discerning eyes to figure out and perhaps in doing so gain an advantage over others.

I don't consider this a hint, merely an observation that may offer a better starting point for your guesses.

AFAIK, there is only one possibility when it comes to the stakes of this game.

"No hints".

yeah, i more meant generally for this type of post, not for this specific hand.

AFAIK, there is only one possibility when it comes to the stakes of this game.

now i have to figure out what im missing or its going to drive me crazy.

Figure it out?

no. went crazy
EDit -- yeah i did when i saw your hint. its 10/25 of some sort. Thats why the SB is .4 BB. If i had to guess, .10 /.25.. because $10/$25 six max probably doesn't see many players open folding the button.

Completely missed that the first time. Im not sure ive ever seen that stake online before (though 10/25 is common in live play because the blinds are easier to handle chip wise)

After 10 hours, no one's really even close at all. There are some that are warm, at best.

If anyone that's already guessed wants to go ahead and make their 2nd guess, feel free! Please keep your 2nd guess as a reply to your first guess. Thanks!

Villain A7

Hero A9

Which would mean you're both donkeys.

Sheez. I mean, I know we've played together for a long time but dayum son. One try?! Nice job!

OK so @joshua has put me on A9o correctly and wins the Hero portion of the contest.

But you're way off on the Villain.

So as you can see, the Villain couldn't even beat a pair of 9's, which is what I thought up until they fired on the river as well for 2/3rds pot and the 3 came out. Up until this point I had been pretty close calling his range against other players at showdown, and there was no way I put him on A5 or a pocket pair here.

The Villains routine was to hit that bet 2/3rd pot button relentlessly when weak and their bet amounts would vary or they would check when they had connected well with the board. I also did not see them as someone clever enough to set people up with patterns, they were simply stuck in it and hadn't noticed it themselves.

This gave me the confidence (aka balls or idiocy depending upon the outcome) to trust my read on them and go ahead and shove over them on the river holding TPTK. The Villain was in LAGdonk mode, losing to better players and I had been quietly sitting there waiting my turn and this was it.

So who can guess what The Villain has?

Nope. Think more like ... @bigpchef late in the game. ;)

Fuckin 82. With some burnt pube prayers for good measure.

Shoulda guessed that when you told the other guy that 73 was close.

lol. no. but I think I have a sketch of that hand between you two somewhere.

It was guessed correctly by spark as 64o

Great puzzle! And it will take a hell of a lot of luck to get the answer right! LOL.

Still - here's a shot at it. If I get close to winning, then I'll explain my logic:

You had an Ace, King.
He had a pair of 9's.

You're sort of close. Try again! See the hints in comments.

2nd Guess for Villain:

I know he has a king
and something else- i'm going to say 2
K2

Villain has no K or 2.

Whew! well that put me through the ringer!
I don't think I deserve any rewards, as it's taking aLOT of guesses! LOL.

this is it, confidently:
4 6

You are correct sir, congrats! :)

Very interesting hand and I'm lucky my read was correct.

Yes - very interesting hand - and you played it strong. I you are more gutsy than I! Well, thanks for the puzzle challenge! And the unexpected reward (after so many guesses!).

wow, ok! if i'm reading your rules correctly - I can guess a 3rd time?

Guess all you want at this point. :)

villain 10 4
got to be it! ;)

You have one card right. :)

Alright then!
The 4, I think, is correct.
So second card must be a Queen!

The 4 is correct, the Q is not.

Someone's guess of 73 was very close.

5 4
final answer!

5 4, final answer!

oh no, so close, don't give up yet. :)
one more guess should do it.

4 Jack
or 4 8!

It's not a J or an 8, but very close to a 7. ;)

Since we're now 3 days in I'm going to end the contest later today and roll over the Villain rewards to the next game unless someone can get it before I decide to end.

Here's another hint

@richq11, @sigmajin and @full-measure all have a good read on Villains range here on some of their guesses.

Keep in mind, I refer to them as "LAGdonk". They are very loose, aggressive and definitely a donk. This was not a +EV move on their part.

One last hint, they DID connect with the board, but still could not beat a pair of 9s.

Any more guesses on the Villains hand?

im gonna say a5hh.

a5 because you had the second nuts the last two hands you posted (metagame analysis, itt) , hh because you would have needed hh to continue in the hand after the flop.

v has an overpair... maybe queens

You AA. villian 7-3.

You have one card correct.

Nope. Someone guessed my hand correctly as A9, but you are so very close on the Villains.

Villain: A preflop re-raise would indicate a strong starting hand. Maybe a high pair or possibly just 10's or above. AK or AQ of heats is possible, but calling on a draw seems crazy, so yeah. Let's go with KK. Those are huge bets and though the low board may psychologically increase the value of the pocket pair (being an overpair of the board), it seems like too much for a small pair.

Hero: Let's go with JJ.

You're giving both blinds far too much credit when it comes to starting hands. That said, you have one card correct. Keep in mind the Villain was referred to as "LAGdonk" and I've stated that I'm just happy to isolate him (with ATC). ;)

I hope that your thoughts were genuine and you were not holding nuts lol.

I don't see donkey playing with a bad hand - I will guess he had faces of heart. Let's say KQs
You can certainly have anything as you only did what you had to do here. K7?

I hope that your thoughts were genuine and you were not holding nuts lol.

The comments are my feelings during the hand as best I can recall. No deception involved, but they may provide some hints into what kind of range I myself put the Villain on during the hand.

Villian - 98HH
You - swans

You - swans

ive been playing poker for going on 15 years (eight professionally) and I had to look that one up.

Paul Magriel would not approve.

Yeah, I know... I literally translated it from Lithuanian, but I looked it up - the name still exists lol. Quack quack!

I think it is a sign that I haven't played poker for a little too long, huh?
