Speaking my truth
has been a journey
of decades
and lifetimes
and centuries
and aeons
and universes past
and yet to come
Speaking my truth
so often belittled
undervalued
or simply ignored
by those who should have
cared the most
but only pretended to
or simply
didn't know how
Speaking my truth
a lesson learned late
and often not well
too often ignored
even by myself
when I start to believe
the naysayers
those who care more
for anything else
than for me
Speaking my truth
is in the end
an act of self care
of self-respect
acknowledgment
of my own worth
and value, regardless
of the disrespect
of others, too often
disrespecting themselves
Speaking my truth
is a healing balm
a calming of the storm
a gift of kindness
love and beauty
even if the only one
who appreciates
its true worth
is myself.

The first image is a multimedia painting I did in early 2006 for an art opening at the Beck Gallery in Safety Harbor, Florida. The name of the piece is "Spirit Releasing the Chains of Her Past," and was one of the first pieces to sell, which was bittersweet, as I would have been perfectly okay with never selling her. ;-)
The photo of our dog, Lolo, and our late cat, Miod, I took as they were cooperatively begging at the dinner table, despite our longstanding rule of not feeding them from the table. You can see how much that deterred them both.

I learned a long time ago that I have a way of writing my experiences that others find valuable, and that in some cases helped them, so now I'm working to get past my lifelong fear of being seen. Steemit has been invaluable in this pursuit.
