Negative Space | Poetry Dice Entry: Week 19
Negative Space
"You have to dream before your dreams can come true,"
It says on the poster, and it sounds so nice.
But what if your dreams hold the fear of failure?
Can those dreams manifest? They can, and do.
They say that it all comes down to attitude,
That your doubts and concerns cause all of your woes.
And so many say it that it must be true,
But fishing for dark thoughts just darkens your mood.
Lying in bed, all the sheep long since counted,
With eyes open wide and not sleepy at all.
A turned-over turtle, stuck right where you are,
Rehearing their words and how good they sounded.
Let me give you the key to this conundrum:
The world causes dreams, not the other way 'round.
People seem sure when they speak of confidence,
But the con game they're running was run on them.
To get to the moon, they used rocket science.
The arrows they drew were computed, not guessed.
Bluster and bravado didn't get them there,
Doubts they had were resolved rather than silenced.
“The clock's ticking by, their way is just better.”
That might be the case if their story is true.
Thoughts can be problems, but also solutions,
Seeing what's real and what's not really matters.
The poetry dice challenge for this week involves writing a poem inspired by these 9 images:
With the theme of “dream” and the starting line “You have to dream before your dreams can come true.”, a quote from A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
You put a lot in a few verses. Thank you for your entry. @danmaruschak.
This is amazing! Two words stuck out and stayed with me, attitude and rehearsed. Life can certainly be a dream when society completely takes over psychology....Thanks for this tidbit. It's a refreshing life like mood with a dark message in the moonlight. Cheers!
Thanks!
Wow! This poem is awesome!
