abscess

there’s a war in my mouth
killer germs against the Iraqis
the numbed sleeping
tongue of my guilty conscience
caught in between a progressive
backwash of chomping teeth
hoeing the grounds of congress
still, can’t keep the oliphants
from chewing the cud of democracy

they spit it out on fertile soil
drench it in fear and apathy
yet our elected germs fester
in the infected tooth of hypocrisy
as news of the day is filtered
by ears which seldom listen
and only see the silver screen
a ritual feeding of reality tv

the war in my mouth is a word
for their lies, the stench of betrayal
which permeates the air of good will
vented to whomever will smell it
bad breath is a political remedy
for inept performance
in the bed of political corruption
while seeds of truth lie dying
in forgotten pages of time

my voice is a breeding ground
of dissent and denial
ode to this societal holocaust
the senseless murder of a nation
the world is silent as
my negligence implodes
falling into an abyss in my soul
but still I hold my tongue
I keep it quiet in the pitch black
cave of my closed mouth
the germs have won – for now
