Interlude En Route to the Highlands
MacDougal and I,
in the courtyard on
the east side of the garden,
spewing forth what-ifs and howevers
while the summer moon eloped
with some long forgotten rationale.
Conversing in decorated tongue
we were, as if our words
might march themselves
like soldiers into this broken world,
affecting some glorified metamorphosis
into a utopian spring.
Baited silence crept stealthily
into the space between us
as we marveled
at the reflected glimmer
in each other's eyes
He grinned;
I chuckled.
Then our laughter exploded
into an underscore
of the silver night's sonata,
echoing in a minor key.
I juggled an assortment
of chaotic thoughts before retreating
into the sanctuary
of his slowly opening arms,
while the heady scent of him
began to spiral through my reasoning.
