Fog in the Library

Fog in the Library

My arrival at his country estate is quite uncelebrated.
The master of the keep has not arrived home from the hunt;
It has become evident that he has forgotten our date.
After three hours of walking the well tended grounds,
I find myself in an apathetic state of companionship with
The lifeless rose bushes and the sulking, weathered statues.
I wax impatient and come inside in search of diversion.
Noticing a heavy, black-laquered door slightly ajar, I push
It fully open to reveal a stately, if somewhat lonely library.
I select a volume from the shelf at eye level as I casually
Stroll along the book-laden wall, destined to arrive at the
Massive hearth which is cradling a slowly fading fire.
I abstain from poking at the flames, as the temperature
Is near perfect for sinking down in this worn leather
Armchair to still the boundaries of my shifting thoughts.
To my delight, I find that the pages are scribed in ink,
Perfectly penned with a lightness of hand rarely seen.
Upon turning the second leaf, it dawns on me that I am
Caressing the very intimate thoughts of one certain man.
I have procured his personal journal from its secret nest
Among the eclectic assortment of novels and ancient texts.
A mixture of shame and mischief shimmies down the base
Of my spine, and I hesitate before finishing the next four
Lines of script; I simply cannot look away from the words.
All evidence of my previous frustration has melted into a
Solitary longing to hear his proclamation whispered against
The nape of my neck as I tenderly feign an innocent surprise.
An echo of baying hounds rolls off of the eastern hillside,
Eliciting a sharp intake of air and a quickening of my heart.

I really like this. It has a great flow to it, and intrigues the the reader. It has an ethereal feeling to it but is also grounded in concrete actions at the same time. Great!!

Thanks so much for reading and for your kind thoughts!!

You are welcome. I'm following for more great writing :)

Where is the rest of the story, please don't leave me hanging, is it more? there has got to be more? Write on!!! @tinajordan

Thanks for reading! This piece, like some of my others, was written from a dream and purposely left open ended to let the reader create in their mind what happens next... <3

Hey @tinajordan, such a powerful poignant story. looking at the reason you left it open ended, It would be fun to issue a challenge/ collaborations here on steemit asking other poets to write what would their ending be. This is one that needs to be finished. I can see hollywood producers turning this one into a screenplay for a film.

Gosh, that is so very kind. Thank you. I may do that.... but right now I'm dealing with a major crisis at home.... Thanks for the suggestion! :)

You are welcome @tinajordan I hope things get better at home.
