Verses of the Free Verse #4: Beyond Paradise
Beyond Paradise
Do not seek or even speak
Of what’s beyond paradise
Don’t head where the grass is dead
But go where there is life
Sense would be common
If the direction was ideal
Hence the mirror shows how
The reflection isn’t real
Does any recognize we’re alive
Entrapped on a planetary prison
How do we escape a place
Where the faiths cause division
Their minds search for the divine
Being taught as they listen
They must have gone blind
Lost sight of the original vision
They looked into the distance
Within an instance, curiosity struck
They forgot that beyond paradise
There’s no such thing as luck
Time only permits grit
Even some of the bravest fell
Couldn’t walk a mile in their shoes
Most took the safest trail
They went beyond paradise
nonetheless to test their power
Yearning to be the strongest
Wishing the rest would cower
Left the luxury of comfort
Thought it led to nowhere
The youth rebuked comfort
For nothing ever grew there

Free Verse Poems
A free verse poem is an open form of poetry that doesn't follow any particular pattern. It's free from musical patterns, metering patterns, or rhyme patterns and is an innovative way of expression. A poet can explore natural creative speech that can be written in the way any poet wishes their creative expression to be.
Some legendary free verse poets include Carl Sandburg, who wrote the classic poem "Fog". A short but with direct artistic wordplay. Another legendary and amazing poet who became the first person to become commercially famous for free verse poetry was Langston Hughes. His free verse poem "I, Too" was one of the mandatory poems I had to read and I understood the artistic expression from him in those times. This poem still strikes an emotion in American racism and was printed by the New York Times on September 22, 2016, in response to the riots in North Carolina the day before.
Influence for "Beyond Paradise"
There's a playful quote from young visitors to Thailand. Tourist who don't have a care in the world and are exploring. When you're on an island and the last days arrives, "One more day..." The simplest phrase, believe it or not, has turned many "one more day..." quotes into weeks and weeks into months. The greatest times in life and the last day comes. That the core concept that motived this poem.
I get to travel to nature more than the average person and I always wonder why I'm leaving paradise to go back to the inner city. Where there are pollution and sickness. Sickness in the mind is worse than physical sickness and there is only one true power source on Earth. Mother Nature. Back to why am I always leaving paradise to go back to the rat race. That's the core influence for this piece.
