The Weight of a Tear (Original Poem)steemCreated with Sketch.

The weight of a tear, caused by the moment between sorrow and fear.
What draws the droplets down from ebony lashes to the tip of the frown?

That is the answer that I seek, “What brings water from eye to cheek?”
That is the question that plagues us all, “What causes these teardrops to slip and fall?”

The teacher claims, “Its gravity.” While the preacher boasts, “Divinity.”
Neither of these hold a solid case, when you gaze at the eyes on a sad man’s face.

When mother weeps for daughter lost, or husband bellows at a marriage tossed.
The tears they shed show a fate, since each one holds the world in weight.

More than water, they hold a soul. A piece of the person, not quite whole.
The weight of grief is clearly there, within the drop is every burden and care.

The weight of a tear can be proven here,
as the droplets fall down from the crook of my eye to the tip of my frown.

Notes: An early poem, dated somewhere from high school. I was trying to grasp at the big questions around sadness and loss. I think this was an experiment with inner rhymes and longer sentence style. Hope you enjoy.

WTG! I enjoyed your prose. Keep up that creative flow. :)

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed.

Loved it - thank you for sharing some of your earlier work :-)

Yea, the earlier work is ultimately the most embarrassing, both in the maturity of the style and some of the topics.
Glad you enjoyed. I'll be sure to continue sprinkling in some ancient stuff from time to time.

😊 😊 Look forward to it. I'm starting to think that Steemit does encourage more sharing as people allow themselves to be (a bit) more vulnerable. We were all teenagers once!

Beautifully written my favorite quote was the following: he teacher claims, “Its gravity.” While the preacher boasts, “Divinity.” never thought about tears that way and I appreciate you creating the imagery for me

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed.

I think my goal was highlighting how individual sadness is ill-explained by the dichotomy of pure-logic and pure-faith.

Yup man great poem heart touching :)

I'm glad you had a great reaction to it.
Thank you.

Keep sharing :)

Beautiful poem, thanks! I follow you and Upvote.

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed!

It was beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Connects to all of humanity's experiences with sadness and loss.

A very touching poem.
Thank you for sharing your earlier work.

Good poem. I something some of the stuff we wrote as teens is actually the most raw,and full of emotion. Perhaps even more meaningful as we are still open and vulnerable and questioning.

Yea, I agree. I think emotion's during that time are definitely the most intense. It is likely the first time we are really feeling the emotions and have little to compare against.

Glad you enjoyed.
