She Needed the Voice of God (Original Poem)steemCreated with Sketch.

zipporah-artist-unknown.jpg

Zipporah with a zippo
trying forever to spark
the dried brush of a man.
An Egyptian man,
the kind with connections.
How can her meager mounds compare
with the pyramids?
Her eye lashes match
the great palms of the Nile?
Her floods aren’t as deep
Her hands are more sand than wine.
But she wants him to drink from her,
to know a shepard’s daughter
can hold the Pharoah’s son.

Notes: I think this poem bloomed from the first line and image: Zipporah with a lighter, trying to kindle something. It felt like a fun twist of perspective on the entire Moses story. For those unaware, Zipporah (or Tzipora) was the wife of Moses. Looking back, I don't know how much I like the anachronism anymore. Its a little jarring at first read. Maybe I'll edit it to something else in the future... what do you guys think?

You and I are like neighbors fam. Do you go to any of the local poetry slams? I lack courage to go to one by myself :( To say that some of my pieces would be regarded as controversial here in the bay area would be an understatement!

I've never explored any slams or open mics. Part of me feels poetry is mostly a written art, but that part may also just be a coward.

It's one thing to be raw and vulnerable on a page that strangers read on their own time. To do it on stage, in front of a crowd, would be a very different experience.

We'll have to find the bay area Steemit meetup and have a political discussion sometime. I'm sure it would be fascinating.
