The Untouchables
Writers have long created fictional worlds
where protagonists could manipulate
the natural elements to their favour.
Even though sceptics might disagree,
the reality is that there are people
in our non-fictitious world
who have mastered
these four basic elements:
Air, Earth, Water and Fire.
The Air Manipulators:
They create tailwind to gain advantage.
Over the rest of us, they fly in safe bubbles,
skipping through traffic, dodging bureaucracy.
Adapting to their will: the laws (of gravity).
The Earth Shifters:
Specialised in moving terrain,
typically they erect mountains on land
to feed their greed.
In soil, they shape graves
to bury those who dare oppose or protest.
Under their empire, equality will remain a myth.
The Water Assassins:
With skin that reacts uniquely to water,
they become invisible when wet.
Sneakily, they hunt, steal and kill
without ever being caught,
undetected by the judicial system.
Rain is summoned to wash them from guilt.
The Fire Starters:
At their fingertips: flames, guns, bombs,
threatening to turn enemies into ashes.
Dangerously, Fire Starters are leading
the witch hunt against innocent victims,
claiming to be society’s vigilantes.
Those that master one element
can manipulate all four.
Within the human race,
they form a (not-so) hidden class:
The Untouchables.

I'm glad you dig this! I kept editing this for hours upon hours. I had other poems written, but I really wanted something more political to be published, especially because of the current political climate in Malta. Basically, we have protected zones being built over and trees removed for wider roads, all to help the rich and powerful while many of us protest without being heard.

As long as you express yourself, that's all that matters. As for mastering the four elements, I am unsure if that is a good thing. If you do, use it for good.

Well written, I see why it took you hours to finalise, I like how you identified most of the types and to make it into avatar that is brilliant, the news should use this to identify the groups they speak about.
in Todays someone from the fire nation caused an innocent man to be locked up after he tried to protect his child from a water assasin , if allowed to proceed we know the water assasin could have had his way and no judge would touch them.
This world truly is a pathetic one, as can be clearly read in your poem.
This is one of those comments that make me happy yet sad, for obvious reasons.
I am glad that you are able to see the effort I put behind this. It's interesting how authors tend to give the victims superpowers and they emerge victorious and dubbed as heroes, whereas in reality it tends to be the complete opposite.
I think a parallel world to Avatar could be an interesting concept for a series or a longer story. I will have to think about it actually. It applies to the real world so easily, as you portrayed, that I might try to evolve it, and restructure it a little.
The world may be pathetic at large, but there are still some good people lying around. Who knows, maybe their superpower is to slowly convince people and manage to turn the world good.
In most cases it is those good people knowingly or unknowingly either helping to move the mountains by building the sky scrapers, allowing the courts do make such rulings or not pushing that rulings get made in the first place, but good people do what they need to provide to a good family and help where they can.
We all play our role and no matter at what echelon you are in this world you can be sure that you are at the front line in relation to those above you.
Yeah, survival is the priority, and there is no bad in that. There are few good ones who are comfortable enough to sacrifice their lives for a good cause. Or they are comfortable and privileged enough to risk losing some stuff. I will remain hopeful :3

Of its existence, the majority doubts, because it thinks that they are only inventions of the writers. Pero ellos existen, y manejan todos los aspectos de "our non-fictitious world"...
