Island Star Gazer

Alone on an island far north
Beyond the bustle of city and country dwellers
The forest gleams with a magical whisper of life

The grass is a lush green sponge that absorbs my every step
Absent of burning concrete slabs and heat conductors
Trees blow a breeze of life in the air

Alone on an island in the dark
All connection to the mainland has been cut
I am drifting far from stress and tension

Migraine clusters disappear like a bunch of fresh grapes
Juice is squeezed until they become box of raisins
Children pop them in their mouths like candy

I delight in every movement as I hear myself breath
The night echoes with chirps of adoration
Stars beckon me from above

Calling my name I turn and lift my head
To see two bright stars in the distance
No, not two but hundreds gleaming above
Each one with a story more magical than mine

I am not alone on the island in the dark
Each star connects me to a life that was and is and will be
Just a small sparkle in the summer night sky

The vacuum of ages past warped stories of galaxies unknown
Drawing us closer together through a gravity unmeasured
Gazing into an endless night of summer

The first picture was taken with my friends' galaxy cell phone camera and set at a fifteen second exposure time. The editing on the second picture was done by @mineopoly. I know it is a little darker than most of my pictures but I want to show that even in the night sky we are all connected.

I’ve been on this island for three days now. It is so far north that I’m only two miles from North Korea. The wifi signal comes and goes. If I ever get this posted it is one of those lucky moments when the wifi is strong.

It has been cleansing for me to be away from the city. At first my body reacted with grass allergies but the air is so clean I got stronger. I started to do exercise I normally wouldn’t do like push ups and plank that my body needs but I don’t want to do.

Every day nature speaks to me here. The cool shade in the day speaks the gentle comfort to a summer that was so hot. The breeze from the forest brook speaks the soothing praise to the mountains it passes. All the voices from this busy world melt into one and wash into the river basin.

If you have a chance please visit Kangwha Island. It is an historical Island in Korea. First There is manisan the mountain that Dangun came down from heaven and established the nation of Korea. Today it is a holy Shrine.

The island is also famous for King Gojong who chose to move his palace to the island to prevent invasion in the 1800s. The ironic and sad part is that King Gojong was invaded anyway and forced to sign an unfair treating with invading countries.

Verse of the Day/ Genesis 15:5

"Look up at the sky and count the stars--if indeed you can count them."

Christopher, this is one of your best poems that I've read! I probably missed one or two during the 100 Days of Poetry! A place without wifi is what a lot of people need, as long as they have some family or friends along with them on the island! :)

Thank you so much @violetmed for supporting my poems through the 100 day challenge.

This poem came out of actual experience and time with God and creation. The frustration of having no wifi became a blessing. I think I am over my Steemit addiction. For a time this was the first place I turned when I woke up in the morning.

Now I'm enjoying my life offline. One day there will be an app that quickly connects my offline life and shares it with you and the world. For now I am happy to share this part.

I think you like this poem because you can relate to the concrete conductors and the stress that technology gives us all.

God bless you and give you strength and joy to last the summer :)

hahaha! love that joke. and the top photo is amazing. how long are you there for? It sounds like a true blessing to be able to get away from the city and rejuvenate and the island sounds like a dream to visit! great job sir and God bless you!

This is my last day. I've been here for four days for a retreat. I don't want to go back to the city but that is where my real work and mission is. It's amazing how fresh air makes me want to exercise. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm thinking of adding a couple more pictures from the island.

oh please do sir!

A couple pictures were added. I have five minutes and will check out what's happening in the Wild West.

The connection with nature leads us to appreciate the immensity of the universe.

I'm so glad that the only access I have to internet is a small office on our campsite. Still I am posting too much. I need 100% detox but I'll take what I can get. The Island has awesome clam barbeque and a variety of Korean foods. I spent most of the time in the mountains. I was disappointed when one of my favorite trails was paved over but other than that the village hasn't changed much in the past ten years. Fishing and farming are popular.

This is wonderful Christopher. Great poem as always. It’s great you are getting revitalized but don’t swim to North Korea... 😊

Thank you for the advice. I'm pretty sure I would be arrested or if not shot on the way. I'm not interested in becoming an international headline.

Headlines: School teacher, on relaxing holiday, swims to North Korea and was captured. 🕵️‍♂️ . He is now in Kim Jong Un’s boot camp!

That's the one. It is hot enough but I'm not swimming^^ ♥

That’s good. Stay with us Christopher. We need you on Steemit. 😊 ❤️

Thanks. I like comments like this. I'm back in Seoul and in the classroom tomorrow :)

Oh,

That's interesting. I saw your post about microsoft blockchain. I will leave a comment. If you comment about the content of the post then I might visit your posts more often.

looks very peaceful (except for the fact that there's missiles a few kilometers away).
if i have time i should pay this place a visit.

Its only an hour and ten minute drive from Shinchon. A great place for fishing on man made ponds or just doing nothing. It was cool at night so I could sleep without ac.
