"Girls" | Poems, 005

in #poetry7 years ago

This was one of the first poems where I tried telling a story of sorts, instead of simply expressing my own thoughts/feelings (again, wriiten at around age 17).

(Also, in case you're following along and noticed: Yes, I did tend to like using iambic pentameter, and the sonnet style ;P ... I do start getting more free-style in later poems, promise.)

Girls

Happy are our hours, laughter and play,
As we dance to music, skipping with ease,
We don't seem to see, as time slips away,
That others are fearful, bad and displeased.

We're just children, 'are as all children are,
Care-free, trusting, no malicious intent,
But one day grown-ups who come from afar,
Come to take Sarah, away to be sent.

We run to our secret together-place,
Waterfall, stars, breathing beneath the sky,
Crying, holding each other, soon we must face,
Being torn apart, rather wanting to die.

But death never comes, so 'looks like we'll be,
Caught in this anguish, never-endingly.

Very nice - and I'm thrilled to see you create a "story" with your poem, and especially a sonnet. So few people still write in Classical formats, and I think that's such a shame. If you notice, most of my poetry tells a story in some way ... kind of the best of both worlds. Well done!

Thank you =) ... I really should try sonnets again, now that I'm older, wiser and less melodramatic, lol. Although I haven't written in years...

I love sonnets, if they are well written. I think one of my best and most challenging (and a popular favourite with everyone who has read it) is my Sonnet Sequence: On Cinderella... it was one of my first posts, and tells the fairy tale in four sonnets.
