'Ferrymen' - a Poem
the story carried on
until it stopped,
capped off the moment
it had built in retrospect,
might not
have wrapped up quite
like that, been lived in
past the punchline
as this telling is.
three cheers
for mundane facts.
the people in the places
conversation thinks
that little of,
unthanked, the ferrymen
of all these in-between days
nameless
under those we care to own.
of any great consequence.
It happens to me every time I visit a nightclub, a casino, or a pub late at night, I can't help thinking about the waiters and waitresses, dealers, and other workers there. I think they've got family waiting for them, or in bed already while they have to pretend they are part of something (in most of the cases, I've thought, they are part of nothing). I just can't enjoy myself.
Loved this piece, @lazarus-wist.
