Until We Meet Again

Everyone she knows, dreads it with all their heart,
They say it’s dreary, she says it’s nature’s art.
Dark and gloomy, “It’s so depressing!” is all you hear,
They live in a valley, but the hills disappear.
For all we know, she is the only happy seer.

She welcomes it, as if it were her beloved Barbie doll,
Excited and keen, she’s pacing down the hall.
She feels the cool breeze against her delicate skin,
With feelings of pure joy, she lets out an innocent grin.
As she looks up, she feels the first cold drop on her chin.

Her neighbors rush to gather their sun-dried summer clothes,
But over here she is carefree, dancing for them both.
Trees rustle, thunder gets flamboyant,
She knew what was to come, oh this clairvoyance.
Unlike the rest, her face glows with joyance.

The wind gets louder, shutting doors all over,
Trees are groaning and grumbling, moreover.
She’s still standing, praising the beauty she’s witnessing,
Oh, how she treasures, the one who’s visiting.
Empty balconies around, are all that are existing.

Her mother calls, her sister is worried,
Upstairs to the verandah, is where they both hurried.
“Look how fun!” she exclaims, as they both approach her,
“Let’s go inside,” says mom, while she resists with an err.
Nothing she could say now, that would convince her dear mother.

Wrapped in a towel with soaked, frizzy hair,
Holding a cup of warm chai, she sits on a chair.
Wishing she was outside, she moves closer to the window pane,
But with every sip, the wishes remain in vain.
Until she realizes, it’s not a "Goodbye", it’s "Until we meet again…"
